What's the deal?
There are some cracking mobile Sim card deals available at the moment. Sim's are the things you put in the back of a mobile phone which give it it's identity (and number) and direct which network and which package you're calling on.
So if you've got an unlocked handset (read about how to unlock your mobile), you can get free Sims, free texts, discounted call credit and more...
Where from?
These deals are primarily good if you want to access the free deals and use the mobile occassionally. However if you're a mid to heavy caller then it's important you consider the overall cost of calls first. To find the right deal for you read the Cheap Mobile guide.

Where from?
- Orange PAYG SIM with 1000 texts, FREE.
Orange has relaunched its free Sim deal via its special promotional website. Simply apply for it, then once the SIM arrives, register it, and after 14 days Orange will credit you with the 1,000 texts which at standard PAYG rates are worth £100.
Be aware, however, that these texts expire after 30 days. Various tariffs are available, but none are table-topping in terms of call/text charges. They will get you 2 for 1 cinema entry though... (Read Orange Wednesdays for full info).
This specific offer's scheduled to end on Sat 31 May, but the deal's available elsewhere too, so it's worth Googling even if you're too late.
Call Costs: 15p min std(Racoon) Text Costs: 10p std (Racoon) Credit Expires after: 6 months without a chargeable call.
- Tesco Mobile Value SIM card with £10 credit, £5 delivered.
Tesco's no-frills Value SIM Card offers a flat-rate of 15p/min for calls, and 5p for texts, with no minimum top-up. However, the service is truly no-frills; there's no international calling, GPRS access or MMS messaging.
If you don't need these though (and for a back-up/granny in the glovebox phone you probably won't), it's worth checking out. Available for free delivery or store collection at Tesco Direct. Again, the free credit will be added upon activation and can't be transferred.
Call Costs: 15p min std Text Costs: 5p std Credit Expires after: 6 months without a chargeable call.
- Tesco Mobile Extra SIM card with £20 credit, £10 delivered.
This SIM-only deal's available from the Tesco Direct website with free delivery. This one's better for day-to-day use, as call & text charges vary depending on how much you top up; top up less than £15/mth and it's 20p/min to call, and 10p/text (same as the Orange one above), but top up £15 or more and the price drops to 10p/min to call and 5p/text. The free credit will be added upon activation and can't be transferred. It's also available to collect in-store if you can't wait.
Call Costs: 20p min std/10p min if topped up £15/mth Text Costs: 10p std/ 5p if topped up £15 Credit Expires after: 6 months without a chargeable call.
These deals are primarily good if you want to access the free deals and use the mobile occassionally. However if you're a mid to heavy caller then it's important you consider the overall cost of calls first. To find the right deal for you read the Cheap Mobile guide.

It's also possible to find PAYG topup credit at relatively huge discounts off the face value, online. There are several ways and places to find them if you make the effort to search. I for one have used the results at http://topup.senditquicker.com approximately a dozen times and always enjoyed quick and satisfactory service.0

I think most of us come here in order not to have to make the effort to search!kissmeimposh wrote: »It's also possible to find PAYG topup credit at relatively huge discounts off the face value, online. There are several ways and places to find them if you make the effort to search.
This is a link to an Ebay search page, offering various deals from various traders. The URL http://senditquicker.com, without the "topup", leads to an ebay courier. if you want to join tesco mobile permanently and are jumping from o2, then ring up o2 and ask for the PAC to transfer your mobile number from o2 stating you want to go with tesco mobile because you prefer that tariff. in doing this, they will offer you the tesco mobile tariff plus all the benefits of staying on o2 - using mms, gprs, topping up and receving 10% back after 3 months etc. this is because tesco use the o2 network.
i did this 2 years ago and recently left o2 with the tesco mobile tariff for some other mobile network. if nothing has changed, this should still work.
you can actually call o2 customer services for free. just call 4444 (the top up line), choose the voucher top up method. when asked to enter the number, press a few numbers and then #. make this mistake 3 times and then it will ask if you want to have some help through customer services. press the number for yes. once you get connected, it will say you're charged but you're still calling from 4444 which is free.0 -
Anyone know if there's a sim-only offer for the 3 network? I have some old handsets, but they don't take regular sims.0

Tried ordering the tesco value sim, but it said I had to pay for postage

EDIT: Just worked out its only free delivery on orders over £25 - might try and pick one up instore if there are any going0 -
I sent off for one of these Orange sims.
I have registered it but do not have the 1000 free texts.
Do I have to top it up first. I thought from the advert that you got these 1000 whether you topped up or not and then after a month they expired.
Any ideas?0 -

You have to phone Orange and register the sim card. They will also give you the number for the card. The free texts will then be credited to your phone. You do not have put on any credit.0 -
