Advice re ending joint tenancy... please?

Hi all,
I'm just looking for a little advice please.
I've been renting a flat with my boyfriend, but unfortunately things aren't working out. We haven't actually made the decision to split yet but it's looking likely. I was just wondering where we'd stand as we applied for joint tenancy, but I'd be leaving.
I know we've to give 30 days notice, but would I do this alone while he looked to get someone in to rent the spare room, or is it better not to tell the letting agents and just have the full rent come from his sole account?
Do i then inform the water company and Council that I have left said property (all other bills are in his sole name)?
Also, the deposit. I paid it, and it was a fairly hefty amount (£900). I'm not sure where I'd stand with this. If I gave 30 days notice would i still be entitled to it back, or would they keep it until my boyfriend leaves?
I'm not going behind my boyfriend's back, we have discussed this, but I'd just like to know officially where I stand. Any help is appreciated.

do you know what kind of tenancy you are on - what usually happens is you start off with a fixed period - say 6 months - and then after that it becomes a 'rolling' tenancy?0

The fixed period (6 months) finished a few months ago so now we're on the rolling thing, with only 30 days notice.

Well, the landlord may well agree to draw up a new tennancy agreement with your b/f (+ a new flatmate maybe) alone and return your deposit (with b/f paying a new one). Of course, your b/f would also have to be in agreement with this.
RE: council tax and water, yes tell them you have moved out and on what date and they will close your accounts. Your b/f can then set them up again (the water company won't turn off the water in the meantime!). The tenancy is for you both, you both would have to give notice then your ex partner would have to get a new agreement with the landlord to continue living there if the landlord is ok with this. Once the tenancy ends you will be entitled to your share of the deposit (if it was jointly paid you will have to just split between you when it comes through) when it's repaid by the landlord. Your ex partner would have to then repay any bond required.One day I might be more organised...........

ok if your on the rolling tenancy the notice period will be 1 month/30 days...
BUT it will have to coincide with when you pay rent. so if you pay rent on the 1st for example as long as you give notice before the 1st May you can leave on the 1st June. If you gave notice after the 1st May then your notice period would be until the 1st July. Of course if you landlord agrees you can leave earlier.
As you have a joint tenancy, if you give notice you will end the contract with the landlord and both you and your boyfriend. If you boyfriend wants to stay on he will have to agree with the landlord to sign a new tenancy agreement.
The full deposit should be returned + you boyfriend will have to pay the deposit again if he signs a new agreement.
You should not just leave and sublet the room as you will remain on the contract + will still liable to pay the rent- if anything went wrong or your boyfriend turned against you then you could be chased for the full amount of any unpaid rent! Also if you do this you won't get your share of the deposit back.
If/When you do leave take a note of the gas electricity meter readings. Phone the utilities providers and give these readings and ask for your final bill. They will then write to 'the occupier' to get whowever is living there to take over the billing - so your boyfriend will then takeover if he stays on. Same with Council tax. Just tell them the date you moved out and they will send you a final bill/statement.0 -
She is only on the council tax and water bills, so doesn't need to worry about gas and electricity readings.
