I'm paying rent for an empty flat - please help!

    i think the owner/agents have a legal duty to take reasonable steps to re-let the flat out, if they dont then you have a case for not paying rent and and having the contract terminated.

    During the Terms of the Agreement a Tenant should not stop paying rent without first taking qualified legal advice. The situation is not clear at the moment on the need for a LL to mitigate their losses in the event of a Tenant seeking to extricate themselves before the end of a Fixed Term.

    The OP could always offer to help find some replacement tenants as s/he is the one who wants to break the contract.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

    I'm not going to stop paying rent, cos i care far too much about my credit rating. I've just put it up on gumtree and had a few replies which is promising.

    Just a bit fed up to be honest - i know no one is living there as the ground floor tenants work with me so they keep me up to date with any info.
