Hello everybody,
Warning - blatant plug :-[ but OK'd by Fran as relevant to Old Style
and I have nothing to gain from it because it's entirely non-profit and I'm just a volunteer helper.
I've not been around for a while because my spare time's been taken up with helping to establish Downsizer.net, which is very "MSE" and especially very "Old Style".
It's aimed at anyone who wants to make small and big differences to their life by making, cooking or growing stuff; the articles section is looking especially good at the moment:
Top Ten Easy Mushrooms for the Beginner
Sloe Gin and Vodka
In Praise of the Humble Allotment
Chicken Keeping
Basic Stock Making
to name a few that are relevant to recent Old Style topics.
You can look around the site without registering but it's free to do so and new members are hugely welcome!
Hope to see some of you there sometime (if you can peel yourself away from MSE for a few minutes!)

Thank you Bugs!
I had a quick look around and it looks very interesting, will go back to register soon.
It was high time to get a website like yours but UK based, with tips relevant to UK based people, rather than american! Well done.
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
thanks for this, sounds worth a look. ;D0
-
Cheers Caterina and 160!
I have to say it's not my site, I'm just helping out with it because I like the aims and the people who started it all off - and because it's genuinely open to comment and suggestions from members.
I also should have mentioned that it's not even a month old yet so it's a good chance to be able to get in there and help shape the site.0 -
i've registered. ;D0

But I dont know how I CAN downsize much more than I have already ;D ;D ;D
All the same will give it a look.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!

Looks like it has the potential to grow into something good, as it's still new the content is a bit thin on the ground at the mo (not a criticisim but an observation before anyone jumps on me). I love their idea of a swap shop on the forum ;DPost Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
Thanks for the comments and for the people who've joined. Hope you won't mind an update about some new Old Style-relevant articles that have been added - particularly for Lillibet!
Wild Foods to Gather in Winter
Bread Making
Local Exchange Trading Systems (LETS) - basically a scheme that helps you get back to a community that helps itself
Going Organic isn't just about food - yep, it's cleaning with my old friend and yours, vinegar and baking soda ;D
Eggonomics or the Maths of Keeping Chickensthere may be no such thing as a free lunch, but this author concludes that her allotment and the eggs equals a ‘free tea' ;D
My granny would be proud
I'm sorry if this comes across as really blatant, but although I admit we're touting for visitors :-[, it's free and non-profit, and I wouldn't do it if these weren't topics that have been discussed a fair bit on MSE Old Style as well. I mean well even if I am being a bit cheeky! :-[0 -
Hi Bugs,
A well deserved tout for business!
The site has a great foundation and I am enjoying watching it flourish and bloom.
Everything takes time to get off the ground, but lets face it, with a hot topic like downsizing it is going to happen. ;D0 -
I cannot downshift, unless I were to take to living in a tent. ;D
Could someone who decides to downshift please send their excess income/large house/4 wheel drive this way please!?Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Ssaver, you could probably be an expert from what I've read on here then!
And if anyone's got excess income/large house/4 wheel drive I'll have first dabs on that! ;D Cos I certainly haven't got any of my own
And Tracey, cheers for the support, didn't know you were over here too!0
