car hire from UK to Germany

Does anyone know of a car/small van hire company which will allows you to pick up a car in the UK but return it to Germany?

Just a thought, if you are returning to the UK by car book out and return trip at same time to avoid one way fee. This is two separate rentals but Avis for one work this way. Make up a return date, you can always change it later.0

One way rentals are usually possible within a country for a fee however i woudln't of thought any would allow picking it up in UK and dropping it in Germany. They wouldn't be able to hire it out due to being RHD and the cost of employing someone to return to the UK would be massive.Cover me in honey and fling me to the hermaphrodites!0

Out of curiosity why? Wouldn't it be cheaper to ship whatever it is you need a car for out or to fly or coach out? Or to organise for a man with a van to drive out and back?Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

My boyfriend is working out in Germany and he wants to take some of his belongings over there and it does include some hifi equipment, he's just a bit worried about getting someone else to do it incase of damages, just peace of mind really if does it himself.
We're just trying to look for the cheapest option as he wants to include a weeks holiday here so if he hires a car from germany its for well over a week and the costs are mounting up a bit and he only really needs the car/van for the day he's taking the stuff back, so we were just thinking if he could get a really cheap flight home then hire a car for a couple of days rather than over a week it may have worked out cheaper. By the sounds of things it's going to make it alot more expensive.

Chances are that the only car rental places that will do this kind of one-way rental are the big boys like Avis, Hertz etc. Back when I was a student I used to work as a driver for Avis and I remember picking up cars and vans in far-flung places because they couldn't find a return rental. That's why one-ways are fairly expensive in Europe.
Actually the advantage of shipping out expensive stuff via a mover is that it's usually insured for damage if they pack it as well. That said, given the amount of money a mate of mine just paid to get his personal items shipped back to Germany from London, hiring a small van for a week is probably cheaper.0
