  • Why does the tool go over 25 years. I thought 'new' loans were written off at 25 years??????
  • Hi starrynet - can you let me know what year and figures you input to get a date over 25 years and I'll look into it. Thanks N.

This is a very straightforward and lucid guide to repaying student loans. I think I will be referring everyone to this article in the future, as it sets everything out very clearly.

The only thing I would add is...make the following text of the article REALLY BIG!

"Should I pay off my student loan?

    No, No and No!"
Don't pay off your student loan quicker than you have to.

Seems to be working okay now, thanks. Does the calculator assume the salary and loan use the same rate of inflation for future rises/interest?

Yup, that's right for now. But there'll be an additional function added at some point so you can compare how long it'll take to repay your loan if your salary doesn't follow inflation.
