Flights to Christchurch New Zealand

Hi am in need of some advice.
I am getting married this year and have just found out future hubbies brother is getting married Easter 2006 and it is going to be in Christchurch NZ. We need to book flights. Is there a really cheap way to do it without having to sit on the wing! As you can imagine all our cash is going into our wedding at present.
Are there cheap airlines? Is it any cheaper if we book way in advance? Is it cheaper if we go via somewhere? I am a teacher so I can fly from Gatwick/Heathrow after 8pm 31st March 06 and want to return to UK on 16th April 2006.
Also has anyone stayed in Christchurch - can you advise places to stay?
Any help greatly appreciated - am having a stress!
Thanks

Flights to NZ using Air NZ go via the USA. Other people like Qantas go via the far east. I suppose you want the cheapest way. You could try looking at a RTW ticket which may be suitable. Just realised you are 2 months too early to book the ticket as they don't usually put the tickets up for sale until 330 days before date of travel.

You could sign up for the email newsletters of airlines such as Qantas, Air New Zealand, Emirates, Cathay Pacific to see if they email you with any offers, if not start looking at the back end of April using some of the flight search engines such as Opodo, Travelbag, Expedia (take note of thread on this board) and travelsupermarket.

We stayed at a campsite / motel in Christchurch called Top 10 Holiday Parks however it was a fair way from the town but could be an option if on a budget?

The Windsor's more like a British B and B than a hotel and its very friendly
