help on wireless router

Options
Hello I use bt broadband because they were the only provider who said my house could get it. As i am too far from the exchange despite all my neighbours being ok..
I am hapy with the service but have recently moved our pc into a room where there is no phone socket to connect. So to avoid runing cables and so on. I was looking to go wireless.

What shoudl I do go back to bt or can i buy my own router and set it up. In terms of pc expertese I am ok, i have installed a few new drives and cards etc.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

The Ozenda router/firewall has wireless and provided you are not too far away from it the transfer speed are good. It has drop in price recently and is now a bargin.

2 heads are better than 1….unless they are on the same body!

Yes it should work fine! Have a read of some of the reviews on there site.

To configure the router it is easist if you plug into with an ethernet cable.

  • celt,

check this. They have very good deals on wireless routers (everything really). I recently bought a safecom SWMRU-54108 with a print server (quick code:64619). I am very happy with it. Installation is a 5 min job.

    hope this helps!!!
  • Recently setup a couple of wireless networks - one using Linksys router & linksys kit, the other using Netgear & netgear kit. There was a huge difference between the instructions included.

The linksys had very clear, easy to use instructions and a free telephone support number to call (in the UK!). Netgear had 3 very brief sets of instructions, which contradicted each other, additional instructions were also included on the CD - these were better than the printed ones.

Wireless systems are not difficult to setup once you've done one, but if you are new, a good set of instructions would really save a lot of time and frustration.

Both the Linksys and Netgear products were installed and worked first time - so don't think there is any difference once they are set up.
