NTL Broadband, Sharing connection.

Hi, Firstly, I have absolutely no idea about routers etc.!! I have just bought a basic Dell Computer for my son for xmas. It will be going upstairs in his bedroom. Downstairs, I also have a newish Dell which is connected to NTL broadband through a little box that sits on top of my tower. I have noticed that it is connected into the USB. What I need is to be able to share this internet connection with my son. I have tried to read all I can about wireless routers however I am still stuck! I really need the cheapest way as xmas has cost a fortune so far. Thanks. ps cant you tell I;m not techie minded!!

two ways to do it
1, buy a wireless router and a wireless network card for sons pc, tour pc is hard wired into router
2. depends on distance between pcs you can buy a cross over lead to join the 2 pcs together,bear in mind you will need 2 network cards ( these could be built in)

I ve got a wireless set up with ntl theres some box here with 2 aerials on it and something in the other computer with an aerial, phone a pc doctor type out of the local paper.

why pay someone else to do it, it's simplle to set up

and cheaper !!!

you need to establish if the NTL box will connect with a network cable OR a USB - it should, unless it's ancient.

If network port is there simply connect that to the wireless router and you're away. (over simplified it a bit there but let us know how you get on!!!)
