west coast of america?

Hey guys,

Im looking for some advice. I am planning to do some travelling around the US in july/auagust.

So far my plan is 6 nights in Orlando, 6 nights in New York ( including Niagra).
I am then planning to fly to the west coast and go to las vegas, but only so I can go to the grand canyon overnight.

My question is I will still have another 10 nights on the West.
What would you all recommend? Im really just into the sight seeing.

I agree about LA but id also sack off San Diego.

I'd spend my time around Vegas/Laughlin and then head up to Lake Tahoe (there will be no snow) and Reno. Then go across to San Francisco via Yosemite.

There's a fair chance that the waterfalls in Yosemite will be dry as may Mirror Lake. I'd leave Yosemite until another time if i were you.

You should include Cincinnati on your itinerary this time... Why there's Kings Island, er... the Ohio river.... er... Awful drivers.... did I mention Kings Island?

Ideally you would need more than just a couple of days at Grand canyon then there are a 'few' other national parks you could visit:-
    Bryce canyon
    Zion canyon
    Glen canyon (lake Powell)
    Antelope canyon
    Canyonlands
    Sunset Crater volcano
    Waltnut canyon
    Petrified Forrest
    Painted desert
    Death Valley
    Joshua tree
    Sequoia
    Kings canyon
    Yosemite

I know there are loads of six flags in there, ive got the season pass for all the parks, cost $54 because i bought it through Magic Kingdom LA, if you buy it through Kentucky its only $24.99. Problem is you have to activate it at your 'home park' Colorado and Utah yet to be sorted.

I decided to head up to Cincinnati because last time i drove up through DC and Phillidelphia - The world's worst drive ever. Every 20 miles a toll, full of proper slow knob head drivers. Can't do with it, so its by pure chance were going via Cincinnati en route to Niagra Falls. Will have to call at yours for a few beers ;) Ill have kids in tow naturally :)

  • San Fransisco is a must! Especially Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, both are fantastic.

I'm another one who would say avoid LA

I'd agree with flutterby, San Francisco is great.

Leave out the Golden Gate bridge if you've ever crossed the Forth Road Bridge though, they're just the same except different colours.;)

Alcatraz was the highlight of San Francisco for us.

spend as long as you can in the grand Canyon, though it still won't be long enough.
