Karndean vinyl flooring

I really like the look of this and am planning purchasing for our kitchen. Just wondered if anyone has it, and has any stories to tell.

I am assuming it is better to get someone else to lay it, or is it actually quite easy? Hubby is a competent DIYer and would do it if it saves us lots of money!

Karndean is a bit like Amtico, but not so expensive :D

  • Hi marge,

I've got it in my conservatory and it is very good, hard wearing and easy to clean. It is cheaper than amtico as you say and when I compared the 2 makes I didn't find much difference in quality.

I would say that it requires a specialist to fit it otherwise you may end up throwing it all out as it is not the easiest flooring to lay. The base has to be totally flat and they used a special roller to flatten it out.

I love it and would definitely have it again as it is cost effective in the long term :)

Got it in my hall and am delighted with look and quality.
Shop around though cos there were 3 places in Liverpool who stocked it and I got 3 different price quotes. (Think I saved about £100)

Got it in my hall. Has to be laid on ply. I think they laid Marine ply, even though its not going to get as wet as a kitchen area, Seems to be standard kit.
I looked around at prices and if you are going to lay it yourself ( well OH is ) then I found a chap on ebay selling it cheaper than I could buy in our local shops. Abbey-carpets, in Southend Essex. He will send by post
Eventually, as I wanted stair carpet as well I surcumbed to our local shop as OH did not lay it. However he now says if I wanted it again he would lay it, as its quite easy And hes a perfectionist!!!!

great stuff have sold it for years and much cheaper than amtico, though very very similar product. would recomend a specialist fitter though as if not done before can be a bit tricky
  • Thanks for all the input.

I found a few local-ish suppliers and emailed them for quotes, and so far there is almost a £500 difference on a 23 square metre area! I will be very happy if we can get it for the lowest price :-)

My mum has it in her kitchen, it looks really good, and seems as though it will last. I'd definitely get a pro in to fit it though.

If you want to see lots of it go take a look at their head office in Evesham.
  • My sister has this in her kitchen and it is brilliant.

It's not a diy job as it needs fitting correctly and the floor may need screeding.

It is much better than laminate and is extremely tough!

Brilliamt stuff, really easy to look after. I had it fitted as it needed screeding, and really was a job for a professional. I have it in my kitchen and bathroom.
