I was caught up in the fog brouhaha in December when my connecting flight from Edinburgh to Gatwick was cancelled by Easyjet. My onward flight to Hong Kong out of Gatwick wasn't affected but I wasn't able to reach Gatwick in time to catch this second flight. Consequently I cancelled my accommodation, booked through Expedia, and my return flight but my insurer has rejected my claim for any of the cancellation charges for accommodation or HK flights. Easyjet have provided a full refund but that's a raltively minor part of the overall cost. Can anyone suggest a way forward? My initial thoughts are to press my claim with the insurance company and if no joy approach the Financial Services Ombudsman and if no joy there the small claims court.

What grounds have they rejected the claim under, who is the insurance with, if applicable, which level of policy did you have with them??All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Apparently, "the circumstances which have led to the cancellation of your journey do not fall within any of the specified causes listed"
The insurer is https://www.essentialtravel.co.uk and the policy was a standard cover one. Falkirk Bairn0

Link to the policy wording on there site doesn't work but, looking at my policy it would only pay for extra hotel/traveling expenses to get to my destination as a result of missed departure.0

Unfortunately the holiday cancelled/ curtailment isnt covered by the standard level of cover but from Essential and above.
Under the cover you did buy the most you have is £600 cover for missed departure but this is only to repay additional costs you have had to pay out (eg a night in a hotel) and not for the cancellation of the pre-booked holiday/ transport.
Unfortunately I would suggest you simply didnt buy sufficient cover.

Surely it is a missed departure? He missed the departure of his flight because of Easyjet. Though it's force majeure I suppose??0

Actually, Easyjet refused to give a reason for the flight cancellation. Other flights were heading for Gatwick so I wonder if there was another reason for the cancellation - flight crew issuest etc. Falkirk Bairn0

Except as Astaroth points out that only pays for extra travel/hotel costs.
Holiday abandonment is what you want (which the op doesn't have at his level of cover), but even that wouldn't have helped as it's limited to travel from the final UK departure point (ie Gatwick for the OP)0
