Hi all,
Husband-trying-to-be-helpful-by-turning-a-chicken-into-soup here...
I've boiled the bones and made the stock, added an onion and two leeks and then a pile of potatoes which has all now been blended. Tastes great but how do I thicken it as it's still a little runny!
Thanks

Either let it boil and it will reduce, or add a little flour to it.
A good day for soup, brrr!0 -
So I just turn the heat back on and leave it for a while?
If I add flour, how do I make it not go lumpy?
Thanks :beer:0 -
You could add some finely chopped peeled potato (or leftover mash, if you have it). It willl just dissolve and you can mash any lumps with the back or a spoon.
Whatever you add will reduce the flavour somewhat, so you may need to add a bit more pepper, a bay leaf, some other bit of herb or similar.0 -
i add cooked mashed potao to soup to thicken itonwards and upwards0

If you put a heaped teaspoon of flour (cornflour is best) into a cup then mix a little water into a paste, then tip that into your soup, stirring all the time, it will thicken it nicely.
Usually if I just add flour, it forms lumps.
A spoon of stuffing mix is good too if you've got some.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

This is an amazing idea!
What do I do - same as above, mixing it with a little bit of water?0 -
Oops sorry, I went to sort the dogs out!
I just put the stuffing mix straight in there - you don't need too much, just tip some in and wait a few minutes for it to soak up, then maybe add a biit more if you need to.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I keep a packet of cheapest instant mash flakes and just add enough to thicken the soup before serving. It beats buying those expensive thickening granules.0

I could just eat a chicken soup now.... Can I come round?0

I always add red lentils or oatmeal.0
