Tesco Value Products - Good/Bad Items

Options
Hi,

Following the success of the Sainsbury's post on good/bad items thought it might be worth having a Tesco one for those who don't have a Sainsbury's nearby..

Items I've already tried:

Good items:

Plain Chocolate Digestives
Digestive Biscuits
Jaffa Cakes
Baked Beans
Lasagne Sheets

    Tinned chopped tomatoes/plum tomatoes
    Chocolate mousse
    Chicken Roll
    Sliced Ham
    Corned Beef Slices

    All good

Oh and the value pizzas are fab, only 71p each and I put my own toppings on :)

  • I would say make sure you check the price of "market value" fruit and veg against the normal kinds. Several times I have picked up the MV pack, only to notice the loose bananas or normal pack of peppers is quite a bit cheaper!!

This probably goes for all the value ranges too-the packs can tend to be a little smaller in size which can confuse you into thinking it's cheaper.

    It's only a game

Value Cola isn't too bad, certainly drinkable...but avoid the Value Lemonade, tastes like soda water.

And the Value Cat Litter is perfectly fine, considering what it's used for.

    I like:

    Tinned toms

Value loo roll (ok the rolls are small and not that soft but I have a 3year old that uses half a roll to wipe herself and a kitten that thinks he's the andrex puppy)

Tortilla chips - Fine, we have chilli nachos a lot so bargain!
    Baked beans
Tuna - don't notice a difference from JW tuna once mayo has been added :)
    Fruit is fine
    Biscuits are nice
    Bread
Part baked baguettes are fab for the price!
    Kidney beans
Cat litter - It's lightweight which is a bonus, great for the poos, not so great on the wee's but I scoop twice a day, no problem.
Value turkey leg, it's a bit tough even when cooked, but once you strip it, it's enough to make a few pies
Ketchup is nice, slightly vinegary? Also the glass bottles are a bit of a nightmare, it starts crusting at the top!

    Not so good -
The fromage frais yoghurts, all watery at the top, DD (3) says they taste like poopy, so back to munch bunch and petite filous!
    Squash isn't that nice

Agree on the part baked baguettes, we used to use them all the time when I worked as a chef.

actually most of the value biscuits and sweets are great

    pasta
    Gammon joints
    thin steak
tuna is ok but doesn't seem as good as it used to be

    Extra strong/mature cheddar

    corn/maize snacks
