Tesco Home Phone Overcharging

Last autumn Tesco home phone introduced a new system. My bill doubled and my usual itemized list was missing. After a week of phone calls they admitted their new system hadn't allowed free calls; I'd been charged for all calls to other Tesco home phone users and all directory calls (also free). I had a letter saying I'd be creditted with the overcharge in my next bill. Next bill - no refund, nor with the next, etc. I phoned, emailed and wrote and finally threatened to take action. Miraculously I had a phone call and an amount averaging the overcharge was agreed and has now been applied to my account. A family member has also had to nag them to get an averaged refund. Neither refund was calculated accurately or correctly; just averaged between the usual charge and the charge for that period. So be warned, if you were a Tesco home phone user in September, October 2006 you were overcharged. When you get a refund have a drink on me.

Welcome to the MSE forums NOSONDDU.
Good to hear you've at last got somewhere with Tesco but I have to say there are far better options for most people than Tesco Home Phone.
There are two (blue text) links in my signature below. The second is to Martin's whole article on the subject of voice telephony and the first, incorporating some of the article (the 'HERE' link), is my '7-Steps' series of suggestions. Give them a click - you might find some useful ideas there for your own circumstances.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Their billing seems to leave a lot to be desired.

Sure does. It has gone bottoms up since they decided to revamp it last year and now they seem to have a random number generator to calculate your bill and take money even after you have ceased to be a customer
