I've got a wedding to go to in June where all the people are gonna be a bit posh. I'm sure you know the kind, more money than sense and make everyone who isnt wearing designer labels feel like chav scum. Anyway, I've decided that to make me feel little more comfortable I want to invest in some kind of sun tan (think fish belly and you'll understand why) BUT I dont tan well and am paranoid about skin cancer etc so I'm thinking maybe fake tan is gonna be my best bet. The thing is I've never bought anything like that in my life, I dont even wear makeup.
Suggestions please on a brand that 1) gives a convincing tan, 2) is easy to apply by a complete clutz at girlie things, and 3) preferably one that doesnt streak
thanks peeps, I'm completely lost.

I use the Asda own brand one - I used to use Soltan, but the Asda one is just as good and costs less than£3!! I saw it reviewed in the Guardian and thought I had nothing to lose - now I would'nt waste my money on anything else. If you want to be pampered though - have a St Tropez done! It depends on whether money is an issue or not?Accepted offer on our house - Sept 2006

Have you ever tried St Tropez spray tan (or similar)? It's pretty expensive but compared to a course of sunbed sessions it works out around the same. (prob about £30/£35)
You'd need to go the day before as it soaks in overnight but leaves you with a really natural, even tan. They can spray you by hand or you can go in a booth, the manual way is cheaper and more effective IMO.
If you don't fancy that then Christian Dior do a nice telf tan but it's around £20 and you'd need quite a lot. If you're doing it yourself then don't forget to exfoliate and moisturise everywhere first especially knees, ankles, elbows and knuckles.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
Hi
I know what you mean, the only colour I go is a whiter shade of the blue I normally am! I have tried many tans and find the best ones are the ones where someone else puts them on you. St Tropaz is good but can be pricey. The best one I have ever found is the spray on tan. They are about £10 - £15 and last for about 4 days. Best to try one out before the wedding tho! You get an even tan all over and you feel brilliant. Develops over five hours so get it done a day or two before the event. Hope you have a good time!'The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive'0 -
I really like Bodyshop fake tan.
Whichever product you use the secret to success is proper skin preparation. You really need to exfoliate well during a bath or shower, paying particular attention to areas of rough or thickened skin (knees, elbows, heels). After drying, mix one third fake tan with two thirds body moisturiser and apply to skin. Rub in thoroughly to avoid streaking, esp in previously mentioned areas. Do the same on your face with a facial moisturiser.
If the result is not dark enough use half and half next time and remember each application can make the colour darker.
Once you have the correct tone, maintain by re-applying every few days or weekly, but still exfoliate and add moisturiser each time.
Streaks can usually be removed by exfoliation - you only colour the top layer of skin."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
Thanks guys, I think maybe I'll investigate one where a salon does it for me as then I can blame them if it goes wrong
I think they do it in the one down the road, so will investigate prices etc
Anyone know the going rate so I know if I'm being ripped off?:A:A:A:A:A:A0 -
I've tried so many brands of Fake Tan, I could start up my own shop! The best I have found is definitely St Tropez. I do this one at home and it always turns out really well for me. (Its expensive of course, but worth it for a treat)
If you get one done in a Salon, you're looking to pay around £25-£35."There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
They range from about £12 - £15 for the spray on tans, have seen them for £25 in Newcastle, your local salon will be cheaper than that!'The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive'0
