Has anyone used this product?

Looks almost toooo easy

I have lightly textured ceiling and part of wall above picture rail , I cannot stand to look at it anymore!

Before I get the plasterer in , thought this may be worth a try

  • I have no experience of using this product but I have used (and am about to use again this morning) Polycell Finishing Skim. This stuff looks daunting but is very easy to use. You simply paint it on with a brush then wait ten minutes before smoothing it off with either the plastic scraper provided or a plasterers float (money saving tip - these floats can be quite expensive in DIY shops as they generally sell the brand names, it can sometimes be cheaper to buy a whole pack made by some unknown brand which includes bricklaying and pointing tools. You will see these in the building section or ask) It sounds like quite a large area you are doing so I would suggest getting a float as the plastic thing could take you forever.
Another thing that makes the job of skimming much easier is one of those plant sprayers with the trigger. Use this if the plaster starts to dry up before you get to it with the float. It really is easy but take your time until you get the hang of it and don't put too much on at a time or you'll never get to it before it dries out.

This stuff is a waste of money! just use standard filler/plaster it does the job just better.
  • I started to decorate my daughters artexed bedroom with the intention of just painting over the artex however the artex started to come away. I have now managed to scrape off all of the artexing but the walls underneath are a real mess. they have deep scratches and I can now see why the artexing was done in the first place.

Polycell do a product called smoothe over?

does anyone have experience of using smooth over? I haven't checked the price but Im sure its expensive which I dont mind as long as it does the job.
Or should I just call in a plasterer?

    your views are much appreciated

  • i looked at your post to inform you that if you used a steam wall paper stripper then the artex would come off a treat. however i see you have all ready removed the artex. if i were you i would call in a plasterer he will give the wall a coat of unibond then skim the wall. it will come up like new. hope this helps.

  • Thanks for the info...

the room is only 9ft x 7ft. Any idea how much a plasterer may charge for this?
