Will ceramic slow cooker go in the oven?

Options
Hi,
I have just bought a slow cooker and in my eagerness to use it I put a curry going at 3pm this afternoon. I was wondering if I could put the removable ceramic dish in the oven if it needs a boost to cook the veg?
All in aid of saving my washing up!!!lol
Thanks

Congrats on your slow cooker lucasmum!!
I would think probably you could, but my lid is glass with a plastic handle so would not use the lid.

Personally, I am so precious about mine that it doesn't even go in the dishwasher as if the casserole breaks then the whole thing is knackered. If you have a suitable casserole dish then it is just a case of washing another dish, so I would personally transfer from the SC.

    Hi Lucasmum,

As MrsBartolozzi, the crockpot will probably be fine in the oven but do be careful of the lid and especially the handle. I popped my new crockpot into the oven in 1985 and completely melted the handle. :o I limped along with it for years, doing balancing acts to remove the lid before finally replacing it last year.

Perhaps you could put the casserole into the oven covered in tinfoil?

i agree with mrsb.. i in the past when i first left home put my slow cooker dish in the oven and ruined it by melting the lid handle :o  i`d advise to transfer your food to a different dish if you plan to do this.
when you cook in the sc it takes a good while to cook things hence the name slowww cooker!
if it were me i`d leave it cooking in the sc and eat it later on and grab a snack for now to keep the munchies at bay or have it for tea tomorrow and make something else for tonights tea.
proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance! :p

Thanks for all the replies. I thought that it might be long enough but the veg was still a little crunchy. I put enough for tonights tea in a cassorole dish in the oven then I have left the other half in the SC for a meal for the freezer. I too have a plastic handle on the lid so I will only ever put the main dish!
If anyone fancies passing on any SC triumphs I would be eternally grateful!!
    Thanks again.

  • Hi All,
Small question here. I don't own a casserole dish at my house, but own a slow cooker. It has a removable cooking dish thing, and I was just wondering if it is safe to use that in the big oven or if it'd break?

    Thanks in advance

My slow cooker is a black oval one, that is found in many of the cheaper modern slow cookers and the instructions say not to use it on the hob or in the oven so I haven't. I have read reports of them cracking even if exposed to sudden changes in temp, like pouring in hot water.

My guess is that many older ones will be better quality, I know my friend's mum has one from when she first married 40 years ago that is virtually indestructable but these days unless the instructions say they are oven proof, I would guess they are not, not the £12.49 at Tesco variety anyway....
