Last day for Skipton 3 Year 7%

Options
If you've had your eye on any of the Skipton BS 7% Bonds then you need to act today, Saturday, as they are being withdrawn after closing time [and being reduced to 6.75% from Monday].

The 7% 3 Year Bond is the product which stands out for me.

In the wider market it is only just beaten by IceSave (7.06%) and FirstSave (7.10%)

There isn't anything now listed on their website, can you add to it whilst it is open, or is it a fixed opening deposit only?

Doors are now closed, but in answer to your question it is possible to add to an initial investment on a Skipton bond until it is closed to new investors.

Agreed, isofa, but perhaps their variable rates will come under pressure when profits fall / ?losses appear? at Connells - which is why I go for fixed rates with them.

I was late in replying because I was out at Skipton:

    a) adding to my 7% 3 Year Bond [now closed for new business] and
    b) opening a 6.5% Fixed Rate ISA which is still open for new business and also takes transfers in :).

This ISA (fixed until December 2009) is the clear market leader according to Money£acts at both mutuals and Plcs.

7.67% is the gross rate, but maturity interest pulls the AER down to 7.15%.

Still higher than Skipton, but best to compare like with like.

Yes, you are right and thats important, sorry! And you need to consider whether maturity interest might push you into the higher tax bracket if you are normally lower rate tax payer
