  • After reading posts a while ago re council tax banding I checked out my neighbours properties to discover to my horror every one else in the road was band D or E and although we are one of the smaller houses we were band 'F'.

I wrote to the Valuation office and without them even physically coming to view the property I received a letter to-day to inform us we have been dropped a band to 'E'. Phoned the Council and they are refunding back to 2001 and we can still appeal to see if we can go back to '99 which is when we moved into the property.

Everyone I spoke to i.e. Valuation Office and the Council were extremely helpful and very nice.

Many thanks as it was reading all the posts that gave me the encouragement to to challenge the valuation and for my trouble received lower banding & refund of £1,100.
  • I tried this with my council (Glasgow City), and I just got back a letter informing me that I was 'out of time'!

I read yesterday about a man in Essex who tried to cliam because all his neighbours were a lower band. All the neighbours band was raised to match his!

I have searched these boards to find the right button to start a thread.

I must be blind as I cannot find one anywhere:confused:

Hence I am replying to another post to find the answer.:j

    Hi everyone,

I turned 50 on Saturday 25th August so am now officially a Silver Saver!

Had a great party, wore a HUGE badge saying how old I was, had a helium balloon and had a big mug of hot chocolate with whipped cream for breakfast. Does that mean I can start my second childhood now?!?

  • :hello: I am new to your boards.
Over the past few weeks I have read numerous items and enjoyed your advise, at the moment I have nothing to share, but I will be back.

They will send you an application form which contains all the Schedule of Premiums, which I think you will find very competitive for the 65 -90 age group. For instance, a 18-24 day visit to Spain (Area 2) will cost £32.72.

hope this might help the elderly,
