Hi,
I'm looking to buy a standalone, portable satnav (GPS) system.
My choices appear to go between
TomTom ONE
Nuvi 350 or 360 (not sure what the differences are with the 300 series variants)
Medion GoPal PNA465
Any further advances on which one to buy? Features I'm looking for:
Must have:
small
portable
can upload maps of anywhere to (frequent business traveller)
voice instructions
Nice to have:
bluetooth hands free connection for mobile phone
traffic updates (free where possible) and reroute around jams
map updates free
Not sure what other features to be looking for. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Martin

A few days ago I posted the following in the bargains thread:

Personally I run tomtom on a pda with a bluetooth receiver - I think I'm safe in saying that generally tomtom is the most highly regarded satnav application.0 -
The Medion Gopal seems to be getting all the good marks from computer press. Do a Google search and read some of the articles.0

Go for the Tom Tom, I have one, they are excellent. Easy to use, easy to read and follow.
Brilliant.0 -
I use a TomTom 500 at work as a delivery driver.
If I do 100 deliveries in a week, around 10 will involve having to re-route around a field that the TomTom thinks is a main road:mad:
However, many times I will have 'new build estate' on my notes and the TomTom will say unnamed road when I put the post code in. 99 times out of 100 it will take me directly to the door.
You have to remember that the Sat Nav device is only as good as the maps that they buy:rolleyes:
I would say that the tomTom range is user friendly, but as I haven't used any others then this is only based on my capabilites:eek:
Have a look at this site for some very good reviews - LINK0 -

So since the sat-nav manufacturers bring out updates (usually) on a yearly basis, then the area you want (of course!) could be up to two years out-of-date...

I've just bought a Tomtom 510 from PCworld as it had an RDS receiver with it. I've been using Tomtom on my brother's PDA for a while and find it great. All I need to do now is find some traffic to try and avoid. A word of warning though, the RDS reciever can take a while to find the correct station to tune to.0

I sell sat nav solutions ranging from pda gps to mobile solutions to stand alone units, and i can say without a doubt the TT One is the best of all those mentioned. If your unsrupulous there are plenty of sources out there to get the very latest up to date maps to work with your TT unit whereas there are'nt as many if any sources for the others. Interms of reliablility all round the TT comes out tops as well, WORD OF CAUTION, always make sure you have the most up to date maps before you travel only two other countries besides GB have the post code search option, but this is irrelevant as the road name and building search outside of GB is second to none in my opinion. Also spped camera options are available for quite a few of the other countries available now which is also a bonus. If you need halp finding material just pmme and i'll help you out.
PS I personally use TT on my mobile atthe moment and am as happy with that as the standalone units! Thanks
