  • No !!! Don't go anywhere near it !!! See the following link for more detailed info, but this extract should ensure you get the drift :
Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, bacteria that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive. Then, if the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores will germinate into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea. Reheating the rice won't get rid of these toxins.

A lot of the time, people assume it was the meat within the dish that caused their food poisoning, when, actually, it was down to the rice.

    Well thats just gross!!! lol

    I would bin it.

I've kept it overnight and eaten it the next day and even up to 24 hours later when it has been kept in the fridge.. not worth the risk I don't think.

PS. I've survived the rice, am still alive :j

You may have seen some of my previous posts in which I've said that I would eat basically anything...but I wouldn't eat this rice. Generally, I think that any food that has been left in an ambient environment for that long should not be eaten :)

Also, its best to get it cool as quickly as possible, preferably within the first hour or two after cooking. I cooked some last weekend to go with a curry. After taking what I wanted I put the lidded pan of remaining rice outside on the bench and let the cool air chill it (saving fridge energy). Took about 40 minutes to cool, then it went in the fridge. Had it the following day at work after adding a few drops of boiling water and microwaving it in a plastic tub in our nuclear powered microwave. Was almost as good as it was fresh. Lovely jubly!
