Hi I am moving in to my first house a week today and I am just after a few tips. The house is a repo and all of the utillites have been cut off. The house itself is on a water meter. I am guessing the system has been drained.
How to I go about re-connecting the Gas/water/electric for my completion date (next friday) Also its got a combi boiler (baxi solo) will that just fire up once water and gas are up and running or will I need to get a plumber out.
Thanks for any help I am a First time buyer and a bit numbty at this sorry:eek::eek::eek:

Do you have to move in on your first day, can you not remain where you are whilst you sort out an issues? Repossessions are known for having little surprises! Who knows what your combi boiler will do, presumably you haven't had that tested so it may or may not work.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Yeah we are not planning on moving in for a while to be honest we need a new kitchen so it will be a couple of months, but I want to get up and running quite quick. The boiler is a bit of a unknown fingers crossed it works, the rest of the house is in good condition so there is no sign of any vandalisum from the past owners. How long should it take to get everything connected again?
Do you think I am best gettin a heating engineer out to connect me up ?0 -
If you have been cut off by the utility supplier, only they can reconnect your supply. No idea how long it takes, you are best off ringing around a couple of suppliers now so you can find out who the supplier is and how long it will take. It will probably vary depending how busy they are.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Day 1: Get the locks changed, check windows are locked.... just in case.0

I will be getting the keys to my latest repo in about a week. I take all the meter readings and then open all the letters. This normally tells me who all the suppliers are. I then turn the power on at the fuse box and see if it works. I then slowly turn the stopcock on and run round the house looking for leaks. Bleed all the rads or top up the boiler (if a combi) Switch the boiler on to see if it at least works without the gas. Lastly turn the gas on and all the windows!0

Hiya Andy,
I am in exactly the same position as you, a repo, combi bolier and on a water meter. However I am getting my keys this afternoon so i'll let you know how it all went later !!0 -
Hi, i know this is slightly different to what you are all talking about, but how do you find out about houses that have been repossed?0
-
Another important thing to do on your first day is test the fire alarm and change the batteries if needed, install a carbon monoxide monitor if you haven't been able to get the boiler checked.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Finally got my keys on my repo at 3pm today !!
Electric / Gas - Phoned British Gas / Electric yesterday and found out eon was previous supplier. Fuses had been removed from fuse box, put them back in and turned on all trip switiches - electric worked fine. Gas meter just switch on and it worked. Phoned e-on with meter readings.
Water: spoke to united utilites yesterday and made them aware i was moving in. Turned on stop clock and water came through taps fine. Again read meter and informed them.
It was all pretty simple, No leaks nothing. Only problem after filling boiler system and bleeding radiators, still no heating. Boiler pressure is too high therefore need to get someone out to look at this. Not too worried though as boiler only a couple of years old and want it serviced anyway.
Thought it was better to call companies day before moved in, as noticed letter box had been screwed closed by repo company, therefore no mail to inform me of previous suppliers.0 -

Ask the agent! Other than that clues would be very little info on the house, usually only a photo of outside of the house. And from all that I have viewed about a third of repos have been trashed!!
Saying that I have put an offer in on a repo house that I am waiting on acceptance (finger crossed!!) that is a lovely house that the previous owners took care of!0
