:mad: How can I get them back? I've (husband) has also emptied the recycle bin!! Could I get them back from the hard drive and if so how?

  If you click into your recycle bin then click 'restore recycle bin' it should bring back what you have deleted.. x

  Not really... the poster has said they have already emptied the recycle bin.
  
  They are probably still recoverable though as other posts show

  Another vote for recuva, I used it a while back, lost a few photos but got the majority back.
