Why do these papers always show a pic of british built cars?:mad:
I cannot think of a sigle plant large enough to support 100,000 jobs, that would indicate a plant employing at least 20,000, the other 80,000 being in supplier and related other companies.
The biggest must be JLR and that is spread over 2 main plants (Solihull and Halewood) and some smaller ones, and totals some 15,000 employees[strike]Debt @ LBM 04/07 £14,804[/strike]01/08 [strike]£10,472[/strike]now debt free:j

Maybe they are meaning all the other small businesses that depend on these industries such as parts etc?0

I have an 'S' reg car, still runs fine (Japanese). The days of buying new every few years to 'keep up with the Jones' are long-gone.0

I agree, I luckily have a company car but I have had my own cars in the past, 10 year old cars now are still reliable if looked after.... new cars are the other thing besides houses that almost always need some kind of credit, it's of no surprise that with credit/loans/mewing drying up that sales are suffering.0 -

Hmm. The trade unions want you to spend GBP15,000,000,000 to guarantee 100,000 jobs. That works out at GBP150,000 per job. How much does the average car factory worker earn? Less than 150k pa would be my guess. 30k including overtime, perks, holiday & sick pay and pension if they're doing well?
That would even be enough to cover the wages of the union leaders who earned GBP118,343 (Derek Simpson) and GBP72,445 (Tony Woodley) in 2007 according to Unite's financial statement. GBP118k for running a union. No wonder that Unite only managed to spend 20% of their income in 2007 on their members. The rest paid for the union to be run.0 -

Mixing in the "wealth" that has been wiped away in just a year and a bit.
Total value of homes in the UK falling a £TRILLION + from the peak, UK stock market wealth wiping away a £TRILLION+ from peak, and job losses, pay-cuts, and the fear of possible job loss.0
