Fail-safe dinner party puddings

We are going to friend's house for a 'Star Trek' murder mystery dinner party on Saturday and I said I would provide the pudding(s) for 9 people. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any fairly easy desserts that always go down a treat.
I am a recent convert to this thread, which is why I am now thinking I will do something homemade instead of shooting off to Tesco's.

Lovely Delia recipe, know it looks complicated, but really a piece of p*** to make, tastes delicious, won't be any doggy bags to take home!0 -
a hugeeeeeee mountain of gorgeous profiteroles with gooey choccy sauce mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm am drooling at the thought!:D these can be made fairly cheaply its just a little fiddly but oh so worth it!;) just pile em up on the biggest serving dish/skip you have and let everyone help themselves
Ingredients
a little plain flour
pinch of salt
55g/2oz unsalted butter
¼ pint water
65g/2½oz plain flour
2 eggs
85g/3fl oz dark chocolate
110ml/4fl oz double cream
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 220C/425F/Gas 7.
2. Sift a little flour with the salt onto a sheet of greaseproof paper.
3. Put the butter into a medium pan with the water. Heat gently until the butter melts, then bring to a rapid boil. Take off the heat, tip in all the flour and beat thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and forms a ball.
4. Gradually add the eggs to the mixture, beating well after each addition.
5. Spoon small mounds of the choux paste onto the baking sheet, spacing well apart. Alternatively, spoon the choux past into a piping bag and pipe mounds on the baking sheet.
6. To make the sauce, put the chocolate into a pan and heat gently, stirring occasionally, until the chocolate melts.
7. Whip the cream in a bowl, until it holds its shape. Pipe into each choux bun, or split the buns open and spoon in the cream.
8. To serve, stack the profiteroles onto a serving plate and pour the melted chocolate over to serve.proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0 -

A huge old fashioned trifle always goes down well (HM - not a Birds packet one)
Pavolvas look impressive, but as long as you mix the meringue as stiff as you can get it, and have a little patience when building it, it's quite easy to do.
Or a French Tart - baked sweet pastry flan case, fill with creme patisserie (easy to make -can post recipe if you want it), top with fresh fruit arranged attractively and glaze with melted apricot jam. Looks impressive too.Here I go again on my own....0 -
Chocolate pots.
100g dark chocolate,
100g butter,
55g caster sugar,
2 eggs,
2 egg yolks,
30g plain flour,
tsp vanilla extract.
Mix all ingredients together, pour into 4 ramikin dishes and put in the oven for 12 minutes, 200 C.
Serve immediatly with cream, and they will have a cake outside, runny middle, if you leave them a few minutes, the middle will harden and go all fudgy!!!!
If you make them early, you can keep them in the fridge and just cook them for 14 mins instead of 12!!!! I always make these, they are quick, so easy and taste like you have made a lot more effort!!!!0 -
Microwave sponge puds
4 oz s/r flour,
4 oz caster sugar,
4 oz butter/marg,
2 eggs,
1 floz milk,
Jam, chocolate spread, golden syrup, lemon curd (whatever you want to use as the base!!!)
Mix all ingredients together (except the base)
Put a couple of spoonfulls of whatever you are using as your base (i like golden syrup) into 4 ramikins, then share the cake mixture between them.
Microwave for between 1 min 40 secs and 2 minutes, depends on the wattage of your microwave. Serve with cream or custard, very quick and easy!!!!0 -
Another Delia chocolate one Truffle Torte
Simple to make and you can make it in advance. It also freezes really well.
Best of all, the top of the torte is on the bottom of the tin, so you just place a plate on top and invert the whole thing!Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

I think you can get liquid glucose in Boots....it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.
