Pricing in Proportion

I know this has been mentioned a couple of times before - but I think it needs its own thread. On the 21st of August, the Royal Mail are launching "Pricing in Proportion" which means you'll pay different rates for first and second class post depending on the size of your parcel. In some instances, it may work out cheaper - but in others more expensive. Here is the document:

One has to wonder about Royal Mail's logic.
An item I regularly sell usually costs £1.78 to post (just under 500g). This will be going up to £1.90 on Monday. This item will fit within the definition of the 'large letter' - so fantastic, i'll be paying 90p instead of £1.90 to ship this!
Some customers order more than one - i had an order for 3 the other day. Postage will be around £5.40 - in a much larger envelope of course.
Now, with pricing in proportion, this would cost me £5.59 to send in one parcel, but will cost me £2.70 if I post the three items seperatley.
Surely this can't be more efficient for the Royal Mail?0 -
I already have the same problem with valuable items - 1 on its own falls within the first class compensation limit, but to send 2 together they need to go by Special Delivery which costs more than sending both items out seperately by First Class...0
