hi there
We're off to hong kong courtesy of BA cheap flights in march, we have a hotel booked for the first four nights of our stay (Excelsior.......again courtesy of BA,cheap) ,but were unable to get the fifth night at the same great price
so having never used priceline before I'm slightly worried at not knowing where I'll end up.
Does anyone know what hotels priceline use in the central kowloon and East hong Kong Island areas ?
Is there a rule of thumb regarding what percentage of the "suggested retail price" would be accepted ?
Are the 4 & 5 star hotels really 4 & 5 stars ?
I seem to remember a thread a few months ago about priceline , but since the board updates i can't find it
If anyone has any info or thoughts on priceline I'd like to hear them, thanks

The known hotel list for Hong Kong is at:

Note that this is the priceline.com list, priceline.co.uk can and does differ in the hotels they allocate though I've only ever experienced this in Europe myself, not the US or Asia. No guarantees though.0 -

This site is the best for info about Hong Kong

At present the Eaton Hotel is coming up at $56 +tax per night.
Look at the recent winning bids, read the FAQ as to how to bid and go for it.
Don't forget to look at the Hotels web-site for internet offers.0 -
thanks for the replies , seems like a great source of info"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."

There are a few forums for using priceline. biddingfortravel has already been mentioned (remember its US only). Also have a look at https://www.betterbidding.com and https://www.cleverbidding.com."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

Thanks for all the info , would it be better or possible for me to use priceline.co.uk / .com or com.hk for booking hotel in Hong kong ?
People on these boards (http://p070.ezboard.com/fpricelinea...iabiddingfrm263) are talking about bidding strategies , can anyone shed some light on these for me please"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."

If you use the US site you have to fill out a fake US address and have a credit card that's Ok over there (usually no problem).
The advantage of the US site is that you can insure your bid and can also ask to add a night if you win.
For this bid I would stick to the UK one to keep it simple.
You have plenty of time to read the FAQ on this board.
FAQ.
It is lenghty and can look daunting but it's worth it to get the bidding right.
You need to know :
1 What to do if you get a counter offer from PL Paragraph 11
2 How to bid using "free" rebids. Paragraph 9
3 How much you should bid. Paragraph 7
If you look at the likely hotels that come up on priceline you can decide where you'd like to bid. Be aware though , that the list is NO Guarantee that a particular hotel will come up.
Once you have decided then find out the likely bid price (look at the history of other bids if there are any and also look at the Hotels web-site for comparison.
Decide what your MAXIMUM bid will be (don't get carried away).
If you choose 5* hotel there is a "free rebid" zone of East Hong Kong.
Your link in the last post isn't working, what was the forum??
Let me know the date\night you are hoping to get and where you want to be and I'll give you a 'strategy'0 -
Should mention if you use the hong kong or singapore site you are also supposed to use credit cards registered in those countries, therefore, like the US example, you will need to fill a fake address."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0
