Going to Prague on a stag weekend with my mates, Not your normal loud abnoxious bunch though. There are 4 of us and we are allin our 30's and a bit more sensible ( I Hope). We the nights will consist mainly of getting drunk in bars but what is there to do during the day and which bars should we go to at night, have haerd a lot about folk getting ripped off in bars.
Any ideas welcome

Not personally, but I've heard that it's a great place.
You must drink some of the local lager whils there: Staropramen and Budvar Budweiser for example!Happy chappy0 -
Hi Superfly!
Prague is fab...and I've never been ripped off in a bar! You just need to walk round to soak up the atmosphere..and you could do a trip in an open top vintage car round the city, which is quite cool..You need to climb up things to get a good view...like the tower where the astronomical clock is in the main square, and the towers at each end of Charles Bridge..personally I wouldn't go on a boat trip (done 2, both a bit dull)..
You should walk up the hill to Prague Castle again, for the view (or get the tram, but no-one tells you where to get off...easier to walk!)..the Cathedral is quite stunning, & might not be your thing, but the views are fab..
Everyone heads for Charles bridge, where there are performance artists and lots of arty things..
Its a very chilled out place..easy to do on a budget I would say.

Prague is wicked and there is something for everyone! I went a few ago, there was 4 of us (two girls and two blokes) and we all loved it.
At night we went into bars mostly - but we did go to a club in wincelsles square (spelling!!). I cant remeber what it was called, but it was kind of oppisite Marks and spensers. You have to go up in a lift and there is three floors with a balcony. On the top floor there is a club with topless women and dancers everywhere so maybe that would be a good place for you and your mates. Not too good for me - but i could tell the blokes liked it!
During the day we just did walking around the city. There are boats to take you down the river, trams to get around in, loads of history and good places to shop.
As your on your stag weekend - maybe sports bars and watching the footy may be more your thing during the day? We did a bit of everything and wasnt bored for 1minute during our 4days.
Prague reminded me of a nice sightseeing London. You will find something to entertain you! Just have a walk about! Its easy to get around by Tram (tickets in newsagent/booths) and its so cheap. Rembember to validate them when you get on! Then just get off when something interest you!
Hope you have fun and dont get too drunk!!wins 2008: nada

You can easily spend a full day wandering around the castle. Once you get tired, of the castle (which is massive) you don't have to walk all the way back down to the city, just walk along the top of the castle hill to the Strahov Monastery. The monastry has a library which makes for a fascinating visit, but also, just outside, on the other side of the road is a well hidden cafe, which contains a microbrewery and produces fantastic beer. Their light beer was the best we found when we were there.
If you fancy a day away from the city, Kutna Hora is well worth a trip. It has the famous bone church, which you must visit, then go into the main town for the rest of the day. It's about an hour on the train from Prague which costs only a couple of pounds.
Also well worth an evening out is Pivovarsky Dum, which is another microbrewery situated about 5 mins walk from Wenceslas Square. They brew their own range of about 10 beers on the premises all of which are delicious. The food is also excellent, so well worth visiting in early evening for dinner and beer although you might need to get there early as its reputation precedes it and it gets very busy.
One thing to note, if you are looking for food or drink, it is well worth walking just 5 minutes away from the main tourist areas as the bars and restaurants in the very centre, and along Charles Bridge charge literally twice the price of those elsewhere.0 -
Thanks for all your replies, with regards to watching footy, we are going monday to thursday cos thats the only time we can get the stag off work and are just missing the local derby at the weekend, bit gutted. But anyway will be looking out for the places mentioned, think the hardest part will be finding our way about cos all the maps look v. confusing.Don't ask me, Im SKINT0

Have a look on Trip Advisor - I don't even go to the toilet without consulting it these days

Particularly look out for Uncle Gus's guide - there's a chap that's done a lot of research.
My own post on there:We spent a lot of our trip (about 18 months ago) at the Chateau.
Although we went to a number of other places we kept returning as the atmosphere was brilliant and it was full of interesting people, both locals and tourists from around the world.
We were paying less than 40Czk for Staropramen - around 80p a pint. They have a small club downstairs which is adequate unless you really want a larger flasher place.
We even spotted a (gorgeous) minor celeb - Mena Suvari - which sparked an argument ... "She was in American Beauty" - "No, it was American Pie" - "Definitely American Beauty" etc. Actually she was in both.
You WILL get hassled as you walk through town at night - club touts, drug dealers and naughty ladies. It's irritating but non-threatening. Watch out for pickpockets though, especially on the popular metro/tram routes.0 -
Prague was great - best beer anywhere.
There are some great micro breweries. pivovar dum is good.
Staropramen brewery worth a trip just for the selection of beers.
The Pilsner Urquell chain is good for the unpasturised urquell and traditional food. Olympia was the one we frequented.
Personally wencelas sq , castle and old town is a bit ropey full of yanks.
Have a look a few streets away.
Can recommend Cafe louvre for eats - specially breakfast.
Its on the old town side of the river one bridge down from charles bridge.
Oliva and subterrean for a bit of fine dining at good prices. about 20 quid for 5 courses and loadsa booze.
for a more traditional czech menu and cheap menu try il dobre mylonsky which is opposite oliva.
Get a travel pass for the trams - saves the legs.
loads of good advice on trip advisor, virtual tourist

I also second praguepubs.com - loads of decent pubs to try!
You can't beat a pint of fresh unpasteurised Urquell0
