Growing herbs in pots

Is it okay to plant herbs out in pots now? My garden centre has basil but surely that has to wait until after frosts? I was thinking of planting a variety up in the pots that have several holes (used for strawberries sometimes), are there any that shouldn't go together? I already have mint and thyme somewhere else, other than basil, sage, marjoram and rosemary would you recommend anything else?

Flat leaf parsley! I use tons of the stuff when my herb garden is free flowing! also maybe some dill or some fennel-it looks REALLY pretty so would be nice centrepiece in your pot

I have majoram and oregano running wild in my wee herb patch at the moment. I also grow french tarragon, which can be hard to find in shops and I like the flavour.
Never underestimate how much rosemary you need-I have 3 plants at the moment

I think it likes quite drained soil-so in your planter maybe group Mediterranean ones, and more coldy weather british ones (are there any? I think of things like thyme, parsley and mint etc as non-italian (although I am sure I am wrong as use them in italian dishes all the time

)

One time The Times gave away packets of mixed herbs. I just sprinkled mine over new compost in a large tubcand that year I had this huge collection of herbs. Today I noticed this pot (obviously forgotten) tucked away under a shrub and it was full of flat leaf parsley so that is an obvious one. Mint is the same.
Late last year a parcel arrived from Thompson Morgan (don't know why?) and it contained small pots ofa variegated mint, thyme, sage and oregano. I kept them in the potting shed as I don't know which are hardy apart from the mint.
You have reminded to check. I find basil easy but not hardy. Rosemary is a tough one I believe. Not sure it's worth buying a special pot for them.
