I am a bit confused. Happens easily, ofc. Why would I "take a chance with the salties"?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

It means that you could swim your way in to Australia as many migrants from SE Asia do from sinking boats.
I've not even moved over there and I'm coming out with Aussie idioms. Oh dear. I promised Mrs Generali Snr that I'd keep the Pommie accent.0 -

So put your money where your mouth is and prove it.
Fungus, all I can say is that we did not lay any one off through the last recession and there is no intention this time as well.
Like I said the Port is into our FSR in a big way and has to employ another 1000 people to satisfy the planning agreement.0 -
I have got a copy of those interview questions.
1. Can you right your name?
2. Do you have a criminal record?
3. Will you be renting a dodgy BTL off me?
4. Repeat after me - Pickles is Mr. Trinity.
Congratulations - you're hired!
Seriously - I hope you manage to hold on to your work and so on, but I cannot understand why the docks are not showing signs of impending doom. After all, people are not buying so much stuff, therefore less need for imports, Chinese toy factories closing, etc.
Here is a link to a load of stuff I don't understand, which I think proves my point...

...but maybe it doesn't.
Mewbie,
You are right on! Yes the signs have been showing for several weeks that volumes are down, but all I have said is that the PORT is still very positive on its outlook for the future.
It looks longterm for future growth and that is why it is expanding at the moment so that it is ahead of its major competition.0 -
That docks are showing reduced business doesn't mean that all docks show reduced business.
Felixstowe(?) could be particularly efficient and thus taking market share or maybe very desperate and so slashing prices.
Felixstowe has already made in the last two years several strides in reducing costs therefore making it more recession proof and more than able to take on its new major competitor when it eventually completes its new Port at Shellhaven.0 -

And you think this is an ordinary recession rather than a once-in-a-generation financial meltdown?
Just out of interest, how do you think they are paying for the expansion dahn the docks?
Do you think they just have like millions of pounds lying around, or that they have borrowed those multi-millions and have them stashed away somewhere or do you think they have only borrowed for the initial phase and may have to shelve their plans if the situation doesn't improve?
Just a thought.....0 -

Here's a thought, Who owns Felixstowe?
Find that out and you will realise where the money is coming from.0 -

Here's a clue: it's Hutchison Whampoa who are in very fine financial shape.0
