I just tried to book a flight only via their website. At no point during the booking process does it quote extra fees for luggage. I submitted my debit card details and booked ONLY THEN for another page to come up stating extra costs would be debited for hold luggage, quoting DOUBLE THE PRICE that easy jet were quoting for exactly the same flight! Disgraceful. There is no recourse as this is stated in their terms and conditions. HOWEVER, if you are a seasoned internet booker and are used to booking flights I would arge that how many of us would be looking out for this?
I contacted ABTA who told me they were investigating other complaints by consumers experiencing the same thing, but that basically there was little they could do because it's in their terms and conditions.
This in my opinion is a trick used by the company to get round this malpractice. Mislead the consumer, but it's okay because it's in our terms and conditions! I'll never book with them again grrrr (sorry if this has turned into a rant!).

Do you ALWAYS check terms and conditions before booking anything? 8 votes

no....
Are you saying that during the booking process there was no clear mention of hold luggage fees?
And that when you clicked to purchase, the total amount increased to include the unseen luggage fees?
If so, I'd be very suprised............ Then again, maybe not.

Whilst I accept that folk will check baggage allowance, cancellation policy, additional charges, fare code conditions, etc, (particularly when dealing with a company for the first time), I don't believe for one minute that anyone can state with their hand on heart that every time they book a flight, a train ticket, a hire car, a hotel, an airport transfer, a ferry, a tour, etc, etc ..... that they read through the entire terms and conditions.

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I really do. Got stung once with a very well hidden cancellation clause (the 'Cancellations' section implied that would be no fee, a little paragraph at the end stated that there was), and don't intend for it to happen again! Also, I'm a Law grad, I would have to question what I spent those years doing if I didn't cover my own back!
I clearly have far too much time on my hands. Either that, or I need to prioritise more effectively ... I really should be packing for Prague right now! xGone ... or have I?0 -
Thank you for your replies.
It did indeed ask for me to state if I wanted to pay for extra luggage AFTER I had made the booking. I didn't have to if I was happy with the 10kgs hand luggage included in the cost, however, 10kgs is obviously too low a weight for a holiday and the option for purchasing extra should have been offered BEFORE payment was made, in my opinion, and the extra amount made explicit. Also the cost for the extra luggage was double the amount quoted by the airline if I had made a direct booking through them.
My advice to anyone, whether it be airport car parking, flights or hotels, would be to only deal direct with the company and avoid agents, cos if something goes wrong, even though they have taken your money, agents pass the buck.
I'll only book through the airline in future AND (thank you DMG 24 lol) check and double check the terms and conditions!0 -
We've also been fleeced - I can't believe it's legal! See my posting on

Try admin@holidayshed.com ask what the extra is for baggage before you book.0

personally i would never book a easyjet, jet2, thomson, or any other flight with a 3rd party,
it's better to go direct with the company it'self
seems otb are still up there old tricks.0 -
