Has anyone had any trouble trying to close an account with Next Directory? I have called them twice, last week and yesterday to close the account which has been inactive for 2 years but have recently discovered was still open with a £3600 credit limit.
I was told on both occasions that it had been closed but I can still log onto it online and access the selfserve number by phone. When I asked if I can have a letter confirming the closure I was told that they do not send out such letters.
I have just written a very strong letter which I intend to post tomorrow stating I want the account closed with immediate effect and confirmation that this has been done.
Can anyone let me know if they have had the same or similar problem with Next and if so what you did to resolve it?
Thanks!!

Dont have a Next account, so cant help you with that one. However, whenever I have closed a credit card account down I always ask for a letter to be safe. I cant believe that a 'professional' organisation such as Next dont send those out.
I would send the letter - and good luck with it!0 -
I asked Next to stop sending me catalogues a few years ago (I got fed up of spending a ridiculous amount of money for the privilege). I remember at the time the woman on the phone saying something along the lines that they would keep my details so that I could let them know if I wanted to order something in the future. I never thought to check whether my account still existed.0

The reason I found it still existed was because I saw it on my Experian report and it has a credit limit of £3600 which is considered a credit liability even though I'm not using it. You should double check to make sure either way.My mantra is "Never pay full price!"0

Hi there, a couple of weeks ago I discovered that Next Directory had opened up an account for me without my knowledge, after several phonecalls I still dont know how they got my details (they say I signed up in store which is odd as I havent been into Next for years????) I only found out when I checked my credit reports.
I contacted them to cancel, this is what happened...
Cust svcs lady said she would close account and send confirmation letter. When I got letter all it said was that they would cancel all correspondence.
Called them back to be told that after 84 DAYS!!!!! it would be cancelled as they had cancelled correspondence. I told them "Not good enough as I never asked for account in the first place" Got put through to "collections" who didnt have a clue, eventually got re-routed back to cust svcs and was then told it would be cancelled immediately and id be sent a letter. Got letter yesterday...what a palava
So yes they do send out letters but be prepared to be pushed from pillar to post before they will actually do it......Im going to re-check my credit reports in a couple of months just to make sure.
Hope this helpsThings can only get better :j0 -
Thanks I'm glad I'm not the only one who is having such grief. Do you reckon Next are benefitting hugely for all of this dormant accounts?? While we all believe they are closed they keep open. Mmmmm conspiracy.....
I'll let you all know how i get on. Thanks for your input. My mantra is "Never pay full price!"0 -
They sound like a right clown outfit!
I've got an account, but have only ever used it once for a pair of trousers! Mines still open incase I want to use it but when I do come to close it I hope I don't have the same problems! :rolleyes:0 -
I'd recommend that no-one sign up for a Next account - not only is the rate of interest about 24.9%, but the monthly payments are huge - around 10% of the total which can be crippling! :mad:Total Debt: Owe about £19,000 on credit cards plus £24,000 which is my half of joint loans.0

I had a Next account which I've only ordered about 2 things off them in 2 years I too have refused their catalogues as you can see their stuff on their website. I have recently checked my credit report and found that I had a £300 credit limit!! As I've been taking steps to reduce my available credit a quick phone call has been made to shut the account down completely and I've made myself a note to check they've done so in a few weeks time.0

This has been an interesting thread, I like NEXT and I have had an account for years, the o/s balance has flucuated between £200-500 and I can't remember when it was last paid off probably when we did the stupid consolidation thing about 7 years ago. However the account is now really bugging me or rather the balance is and I'm desperate to clear the balance the interest is so high! thanks cantdance I didn't know the exact precentage. I can't really afford to do it this month unless I do an extra shift at work tonight which I don't want to do but that may be the incentive..... will decide in the next couple of hours, I'm off work today and tomorrow so it is doable but it really screws up the weekend!Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0
