Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, please move if it is.
Hi all, My son and I are moving from one rental property to another in just over 4 weeks, this will be the first time I have done this alone (as a single person I mean) prior to this my ex did all the stuff like re connecting tv's/sky bounce around rooms to other tv's, putting furniture back together etc.
My main concern is the removal cost, does anyone know of a cheap way of moving a 3 bedroomed house contents to another 3 bedroomed house, the only man available to assist is my son and although he is willing and can lift stuff, with the best will in the world he can't lift washers, cookers and beds alone, I can't do any lifting due to health reasons, please any removal suggestions would be greatfully received.
I am ok with the paperwork side of it and have already been on moving advice sites and downloaded check lists etc., it's the physical issues that worry me and the cost of it all.
Thanks for reading

Do you know anyone (who knows anyone) with a van? Do you have any strong male or female friends who can help you?
If not, have a look in newsagents windows etc for man and van ads.
Are you renting through agent or private? If agent, see if they can recommend any removal companies.

No friends who can help in this way.
Renting through an agent, I will ask them, they have been very nice so far.
Man and van has already been suggested and it looks like this will be the way to go. Thanks, I would never have thought of looking in newsagent windows.
Any other suggestions re sorting out electrical things, I need to take down a light fitting in the hallway which is mine.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
What about 'a man with a van'? We used one once and he actually forgot to charge us at all, lol!! Seriously though, this may be the cheaper option. Watch out for insurance though.Forever I will sail towards the horizon with you0

You dont mention your sons age - assuming he is a strapping teenager, perhaps he has some strapping teenage friends who would like to earn some cash and then you could be the delivery driver/director of operations ....worth asking your sons friends parents if they are ok with that suggestion - since child slave labour has been abolished it seems
As for moving other stuff, grab boxes from your local shop/supermarket as and when you can, pack them up yourself, label them WELL and move them in your car/friends cars - perhaps borrow a trailer if you have a tow bar.
If the car idea doesnt work, perhaps you can rent a van to go with your army of strapping teenages - goodluck.0 -
My son is 16 and I had thought of this but my son seems embarrassed to ask them, I am happy to drive any van, have done so before, we just need another pair of hands and someone with electrical knowledge.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

Do you know any of his friends, or their parents? Perhaps you can ask directly, clearly offering payment and perhaps a takeaway at the end of the day (you won't want to cook).
If you are employed is there anyone at work you could ask to help, again offering payment, a takeaway and some beers!

I have a friend in the building trade who i am going to ask about carpets, I may work on my son to persuade him not to be embarrassed to ask his mates.
