Monument decides to cancel my CC in 30 days!

Options
Just received a letter saying that Monument are dropping my credit limit down from £3,500 to £300 - in 7 days from the date of the letter - date of letter 19 July - so I have one days notice!!!!

Then they are canceling it after another 30 days

Now I've only got about £200 on the card and it is the one I'm currently snowballing - but its not the point - I wanted to cancel the card - not have it withdrawn and probably **** my credit rating.

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGG

Rant over - thank you for listening.

  • Thanks - didn't realise that and it does make me feel slightly better - aim in August is to pay the entire thing off.

Gonna go make a PAD now for good measures :D

Gonna be rid in 30 days or less :D
  • Hi, I got the same kind of letter on the same date and blew...I have not defaulted in any way and took the letter content personally. Now that I have calmed down I have decided it must be monument that have the problem not me!!!

Does anyone know if monuments actions will affect my credit rating???

No their actions will do nothing. It will simply show as a closed account, it looks good to other lenders as it shows that you have properly conducted your account and closed it. They don't know Monument closed it, no way to suggest it on the credit record.

Go to monument website and apply for new card - see what happens! You can't!

Did they insist that you pay it off within the 30 days or is that your own decision?

Ooooh they can only do that if they allowed her to carry on paying at the normal rate...... otherwise they'd be in breach of CCA. They close account and allow repayments at the existing rate of APR.

  • Monument have done the exact same thing to me...I have used the card once in six months and there is only about £50 on it but I had the exact same letter saying the card was being cancelled in thirty days about two weeks ago.

They have changed their business model to finance bad debt with the new Balance Transfer Program, you might get a letter for an unpaid debt and instead of taking you to court they transfer the debt on to a credit card at 0% APR.
Great for all the idiots that don’t pay their debt but bad for people like me who do and you can't volunteer to go on to this program either, it is only by invitation.

Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
