New shower or repair old?

I have a Mira Sport shower 10kw, just over 3 years old. The problem is the temperature of the water. The dial is turned up as high as it will go but the water is just warmish. Can any of you experts out there tell me what the problem is? Would it be cheaper to replace the whole shower with a brand new one or would it be possible to have the old one repaired more cheaply? OH can get the electrician at work to do the work either way, but it looks like a new shower is likely to set us back over £200.
Grateful for any advice please?

As you are suggesting, it it often more economic to buy a new product than attempt to repair the old one. I am surprised though at a Mira going wrong in as little time as 3 years. Do you have very hard water where you live?
If the electrician could check there are no obvious faults then that would at least be a start. Is he likely to get the job of replacing it?A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

Hi Bob
Yes, we do live in a hard water area. Do you think that has contributed to my showers 'downfall?' Our Electrician will get the job whatever happens, but he's a good bloke. Done loads of work for us before. Said he'll bung a new shower up for £20 and one of my coffee and walnut cakes. Good deal eh? I just don't like to replace something if it can be repaired.
Do you recommend the Mira rather than a Triton?0 -
Different shower maker, same problem ... I obtained a part (I think it was a new heating element) direct from Triton some years ago and fixed my own quite straightforwardly, but I would imagine it is one of those jobs that following recent law, we are all legally obliged to give to a qualified electrician thesedays.
I am confident in my own abilities, but whichever way you look at it, an electric shower in particular is one of the potentially most dangerous electrical items in the home because it's in the bathroom - any mistake in putting it back together could be lethal for you or others.
I sympathise - it's horribly costly for such a straightforward job.
Being completely frank, my existing Triton electric shower recently gave me a small shock when I inadvertently touched the screw on the top which holds the cover on. I havent dismantled this one since it was installed by the homebuilder. So I too have a safety check cost that I have been putting off.0 -

Not worried about the lectrician as he is qualified, not an amateur but I just think stuff doesn't seem to last very long these days. Maybe I should buy a cheap £70 shower and see how long that lasts. OH said he thought it was the heating element going/gone but if it was the element why isn't the water coming out cold? Or is that a girly question?0 -
Your electrician should be able to check and see if the element 'can' has failed .
There are two elements so that's why you get luke warm water.
At the same time he can check and see if it is a loose connection on the 'can'
or any other connection.
I would go for a replacement 'can' if that's the problem, and if scale is the reason then fit a scale reducing device in the pipe somewhere out of sight.

Thanks for that Corgi Guy. Now assuming its the 'can' where do I buy replacements and what sort of price am I looking to pay?0

If this isn't the part then rummage the site and you should find it.When the page has loaded, scroll down to Mira 416-33 price £62.30.
Good luck.

Prob cheaper in the long run with a new shower. Unless it is a really simple prob to fix. If you have scale issues I have a suggestion. When mira had a wobble a few years ago we looked for an alternative supplier. Galaxy do a range of good showers with 2 yrs warranty as standard, i believe the extended version is well priced too. they do a scalemaster version which should help enormously in your water area, though we rarely sell them. It stops the build up of scale within the shower itself. you will also find them better priced than mira and still british made to boot.0

Thanks for the responses guys.
When the electrician comes to have a look at the shower will get him to have a look at this website, Corgi Guy. Thanks a lotCanucklehead wrote:0
