  • Hi Night Hawk.

I use Audio Grabber for this task. Its not the best but was good enough for me to buy it (about £15). I have done singles, Lps and 78s haha.

You will need a pre-amp and the input will depend on the turntable cartridge. A dual unit with hi and lo impedance is about £15-20 depending on quality. This should have a mains power supply also !

I also use Audacity. This is brilliant and free. U can use any audio source thats passing thru the PC sound card so u can record net radio as well as any other audio stream. Its easy to set up and use and will record for as long as the hard disc has space. Excellent.

    Hope this help.

    Regards - Phil

I used the soundrecorder program that came with my soundcard.

My father wanted all his motown/norther soul putting onto CD. I used a turntable, dj mixer and about 30hours of my time.

I then used a simple WAV to MP3 converter to save storage room and used Nero to record the MP3 to CD.

He loves it......and because I was sat there listening to all the records I could higher/lower the pre-amp to get the LP sounding better.....

Nero also removes crackles/pops encountered with LP's.....I'm in the wrong buisiness....
  • Thanks for the info very much appreciated.

Funny thing is i am a dj and i have recently started to record my 12inches onto hdd and then converting them into mp3, i connected my technics up to my amp via phono connectors then the dat/tape out on the amp phono to the pc input on my sound card.

The software used i use was creative wav because it came with soundcard etc but basically any software to get the sound onto the pc then i save to a .wav file, then i load these up in to one of two pieces of software i have come across magix audio clean or wave corrector, both will remove clicks, hiss, pops and the humming associated with vinyl then i save it to mp3 many audio programs will remove clicks etc but these two programs have been written just to do that.

Do you have to have a pre amp?
    How about an ordinary amp?

  • Hi...I use Audacity which is a FREE digital audio editor. I connected my pc to my amp using the headphone lead from the stereo into the audio socket.(Lead bought from Maplin...cost less than a fiver) You have to play around initially to get the level right...but it works rally well...Simple to use...give it a try
