Low fat AND low sugar dessert?

Posts: 15,114 Forumite

I have invited three friends round for dinner on Friday. The plan is to cook chilli the night before and serve with rice and garlic bread.
But I need a dessert. One friend is on a strict diet, and my OH won;t eat certain things, mainly cheesy thing.
Does anyone have a recipe? I don;t want to be doing loads of cooking as I will only have an hour to get ready on Friday before they arrive, plus I get very stressed when entertaining.
I've looked online but I can;t find low fat AND low sugar ideas.
Please help!

what about making a posh fruit jelly? use sugar free jelly, put some fresh grapes or something in it and set it in nice wine glasses, then top with some low fat creme fraiche with some lemon zest stirred through it and a sprig of mint if you want it to look pretty
best of all, you can do it all the day before

How about Cranachan or a variation? It's a mix of oats, berries, cream, and honey. Instead of using cream you could use greek yoghurt or creme fraiche. I don't have a recipe but a search on the web should come up with one.0

How about a parfait of raspberries and ricotta? You could add vanilla seeds (from a pod) to sweeten the ricotta and any other sweet spices (cinnamon?) that you like. You could also add a very small amount of chopped roasted hazlenuts or slivered almonds or grated chocolate to decorate.
Buy frozen raspberries or use mixed frozen berries. They taste as good and are usually cheaper than fresh.

There's lots of dessert recipes that are sugarfree/low sugar and low fat on the Diabetes UK site.

Make up a packet of sugar free jelly (raspberry) but dont use all quiet of the water stated, mix in some frozen forest fruits. Wait until it is ALMOST set, then mix in a tub of vanilla muller yogurt, pour into individual serving dishes and put in fridge to set....
This is really nice and perfect for anyone who is diabetic or has a sweet tooth but on a low fat diet.
HTHIt`s nice to be important, but its more important to be nice.

OOh some great ideas, thanks.
I'm not sure about Greek yogurt (although I love it) as I think it is quite high in fat? But I like the idea of using low fat jelly and yogurt with fruit - sounds like it will look impressive while being easy!
Not that I'm being judged on the food but I'd like to make something nice!:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
