Shops slow to debit account

I've found that some major stores are slow to take payment when using debit card. One major supermarket local to me has not converted there petrol stations to be chip/pin yet and they are taking between 2-3 weeks to take payment out of my account - good for interest on my account.

Anyone will similar experiences

I use Microsoft Money so I enter all my transactions and balance all my statements every month, you would be amazed at how many payments fail to get charged to the account, I usually leave them for about six - nine months, if they haven't been charged after that then I delete them. I wonder if there is a length of time that it has to appear on your statement by. I am pretty certain that a cheque is only valid for six months, so I assume something similar for CC's and debit card transactions

Debit or credit cards can be debited to your account at any time. There is no time limit. Obviously if they take time to bebit your account you get the benefit of this in having interest paid on your credit balance or not having to pay transaction on your credit card.I would suggest if its a debit card not to move money to another account because the debit could be processed at any time.

    Hi All,

Any idea what happens then if the card you use expires in the meantime then?

I'd assume as the transaction took place prior to its expiry then usually they wouldn't have a problem, but again, is there a limit on how long after exipry they need to debit an account?

In almost all cases when I've used my cards, the transaction is shown as 'pending - unposted transactions' before I get home and check online, and a few days later the funds are properley taken.

    Cheers
