Hair/scalp really annoying me

Hi everyone. I'm after some advice really if anyone has any ideas.
My hair has alway been one of my best features, and I've never had dandruff or anything like that. However, recently my scalp has become quite itchy and flaky - not just flakes falling out like dandruff does but if I scratch my head it feels like scabs, if that makes sense (yeah I know it sounds minging
) They are even there straight after it's been washed.
It also seems to be going greasy really quickly too, although this could be due to my touching it more due the the scabby bits.
I used to wear it really long but had recently had it cut to jaw length which means it's harder to hide as I can't just scrape it back, it's really getting me down.
I haven't changed any of my products (apart from trying Vosene shampoo after it started happening), everything is in date, brushes are clean etc. I have a good washing and rinsing routine too.
I just can't think what could be causing it, but does anyone have any solutions? I feel like a greasy haired teenager again!

Could be sebhorric dermatitis. Try nizoral shampoo see if it helps .0

I had a similar problem & tried Neutrogena T Fel therapeutic shampoo. I used it every day for 2 weeks & now use it every other day.
Problem solved.:T0 -
I've noticed the same with my hair and scalp, i've also got painful spots in my scalp and back of neck. My scalp was so itchy i thought i had nits. I've changed my shampoo to a sulphate free one, (Rockaholic tigi) its not cheap but you only need a little and it smells lovely, i still wash my hair everyday as i always have done. And i tie my hair up when i'm home to keep it off my neck, when i leave the house i let it hang loose to cover the spots. I'm also pregnant so wonder if this has anything to do with it, have seen an improvement since i changed shampoos.0

Thanks, I've googled Sthingy Dermatitis and it sounds almost exactly like what I'm experiencing so may get some of the shampoo you recommend.
I usually use TIGI Superstar but had switched to Vosene for a while since I've had it, it's not done much good though so it probably isn't strong enough.
Glad you have managed to get yours sorted out Dobie, hopefully the same will happen with mine
Missm, do you think it could be something to do with your hormones what with being pregnant?
Thanks everyone

Seb Derm is a nightmare once you got it - it doesnt go.
But it can be controlled with regular use of Nizoral. If you find you start getting patches of it on the neck, ears or face then you need to see the doctor to get the cream which is prescription only0 -
Are you sure that your regular shampoo didn't change ingredients? This has happened me more than once.
I have scalp problems and I found Nizoral good too. I have also found aveda shampoos to be easy on the scalp.
Good luck, i know how horrible it is.0 -
i`ve been like this for ages, have neutragena shampoo, polytar etc and nothing has worked until i used herbal essences shampoo. I think what was making my hair worse was blowdrying spray etc, i`ve started to use mousse and my hair is a lot better.Touch wood lol0

There have been other people on here with similar sounding problems ,i know someone who suffered really bad and COCOIS worked for them. There are some on ebay (dont know if theyre a good price though)might be worth a go if nothing else works0

Hiya i suffer from this from time to time especially in warm weather and when stressed, went to my doctors and he said fungal infection and some peeps more prone than others and all's i do is buy some ketoconazole shampoo and wash with this as directed, can be quite dear so i just get chemists own brand bit cheaper. But sorts it out really quickly
I have tried tgel etc and no change to issue, needs an antifungal shampoo.0 -
I buy the huge hairdressing size bottles of shampoo so it wouldn't be that as it has all been out of the same bottle, if you see what I mean.
I'm going to go to the pharmacy tomorrow and give the Nizoral a go to try and nip it in the bud so that it doesn't spread. I don't mind using a different shampoo every now and again to keep it under control if thats what it takes, I guess the Vosene isn't an antifungal like the Tgel isn't. (Fungus on my head EWWWWWWW:mad::mad::mad:)
How would I have got it do you know?? Is it just a predisposed weakness, thats all it really says on the websites. Seems odd that I've never had it before but I guess you have to start somewhere...
