Hi vivmagb,
If you have a look through The Complete Kenwood Chef Collection there are lots of threads there that should help.

I got my K901E from ebay for £57 inc postage. I use it to make bread and the bread is really great.
If my KChef died, I would certainly get another.0 -
I bought a KM0001 half price for £175 a few weeks ago (from a local kitchen shop that was discontinuing that model to stock the latest version). Came complete with food processor, liquidiser and 2 cake tins. Since then I have seen similar ones go for around the £200 mark on ebay (new).
So far I have used the main mixer to make pastry (fantastic even in hot weather because the bowl and paddle are stainless steel), to make cakes (really handy splashguard stops a mess getting everywhere, super light cakes), and mashed potato (have heard people rave about this, it was lovely but I reckon I would usually still just use my handheld £1 spud masher in future to save extra washing up)
I have been a bit disappointed with the food processor, preferring my cheapy standalone £25 version. The KC processor bowl is small and you have to chop things up reasonably small before they go in or it seems to pulverise the bottom half of the load and leave bigger pieces on top. You have to take the processor off the main machine in order to open the lid, so it is a bit of a faff if you need to do that several times to mix the big chunks back in......
Haven't tried the liquidiser yet.
Cake tins really good quality.
I'd really love to buy a mincer/sausage maker, but, as with all KC attachments they are pretty pricey unless you get a bargain on ebay.
Was it a good buy..... well, I still hope so. I'm glad I bought it at a time when I could afford a treat because if I had over-extended myself to buy it I would prob be having second thoughts.... but now it is here, I certainly like it and hope it will grow with me and help me more as time goes on.
On aesthetics: Mine is silver and chrome and is sleek looking: given that reports I've read say these things last up to 30 yrs, I do wonder if it will look dated pretty soon. But it's lovely in my kitchen right now, though0 -
I had a kenwood for years and they are well worth the money. Mine catered for hundreds of people during the time I had it.........eventually I gave it to my daughter, I was not longer doing any free lance catering, she is still using it, I bought it in 1984!!!!!!!!!!!!!!September grocery budget........trying for £80, not sure if I will make it though!!!!! I certainly did not last month, lost track of the final bill. Will do better this month honest.

I love mine, and use it for baking/ pastry/ crumble topping all the time (not bread, as I have a breadmaker - Panasonic, natch!).
Best place to get one? - do what I did and post a Wanted ad on Freecycle! Mine was passed on as it was a bit temporamental in starting, when all it needed was for hubby to fit a new widgety-something which cost less than £2 and took him less than 2 minutes.
Mine's around 30 years old, looking at it, and I can't see any reason for it not to go for another 30 years - great bit of kit. Would like a stainless steel bowl, though...

Don't know what your budget is or if you want new or second hand, but Ideal World have one on Pick of the Day until 9om tomorrow (Tuesday) night. It is a KM336 with the liquidiser attachment included and it is £149.99. I'm not sure whether or not this is good value or not TBH - I have a Kenwood Patissier that I got for £99 and I love it. I'm really shallow and it is a Kitchenaid lookielikie.Jane
