I wish to fit Laminate Flooring in my dining room, can I please have some advice on a suitable type, which allows for chair movement etc. Is there grades of hardness and wear.
Thank you.
Thank you.

I have been in the flooring trade for 20+ years and I avoid laminate flooring like the plague.
There are too many problems to list, so I'll concentrate on the alternative instead...
Most people want laminate flooring for the effect/appearance.
Assuming that this is so, you should consider vinyl 'planking' which has the same appearance as laminate but without the problems that will drive you nuts through it's relatively short life.
The most popular are brands are 'Karndean' and 'Amtico'.
Amtico is a commercial quality product that is fantastic with a price to match.
Most people go for Karndean. They provide 4 or 5 ranges, all of which are most than suitable for heavy domestic use, but at a more reasonable cost.
I would also suggest that you keep away from the big Carpet / Flooring 'shed type' outlets and stick to a private or family run firm, most places have them. They are far more knowledgeable about the industry and usually care more too.
Of course, you could always go for the laminate !!
Good luck

Im not a flooring expert but having lived with laminate for the past 8 years all I can say is never again. You do get wear on areas of heavy use, its a bummer to clean without smears and dust bunnies appear every other day. And if you have dogs then forget it, every paw print shows
Going for the wood option or Kardean next time round

Be interested to know what the 'many problems are too list' as I think it all depends on the quality of laminate laid and the quality of fitting. Agreed there are alternatives, but i find many people are still opting to have laminate laid in preference to other options.
That said, these posts show everyone is different. I have had good quality laminate down for years, have a dog and take the correct precautions with furniture such that marks are not a problem.0 -

Since they're going to be moved around a lot I can't see those stick on felt patches lasting long. Are there any alternatives?0 -
I've looked on the Karndean site and ordered some samples. Thing is, I want to cover hall, kitchen, toilet and dining room to match. Will vinyl look ok in dining room? Also, the after-care for Karndean looks quite complicated!

PS didnt bother with Amtico, neighbour has it and is forever harping on about how expensive it was...... dont intend to stay here long enough to benefit from that kind of price.Ellie

The felt patches do actually stick very well. I got some out of Ikea and they lasted a good couple of years - in fact when it came to to renew them I had to slice one or two off0 -
