Hi!

I'm trying to get some travel insurance for my dad to go to egypt for one week, i know we're going away again later in the year so i would prefer annual insurance.

Seems simple enough i know but...

My dad according to alot of the insurance places ive tried is not insurable..

*He is 75

*Had a bypass in Feb 2005 (Although he waited a year for the op as it was not needed ASAP and he has never had angina or a heartattack)

*He has been cleared to travel and is otherwise very healthy.

Some say they will insure him BUT God forbid anything happens related to his heart they will not cover it..

The prices i've got from some are more expensive than the price of the holiday!!

I've tried help the aged, travel direct, insure and go etc too many to list..

Does someone have any ideas please?

Thanks!

N

I used this one for an old lady at church. I think it was the cheapest I found, but there is no great savings for the silver haired traveller!

A lot of it depends on your circumstances, so just try as many as you can.

Gosh I was looking for this thread and couldnt find it!

There was an article in the Daily Mail yesterday and I thought of your post. Someone was asking the columnist in MoneyMail asking the expert for insurance for an elderly diabetic gentleman who had also had heart surgery. She recommended shopping around but recommends the following for providing insurance for older people:

Age Concern Insurance Services (0845 6012234)
    American Express (0800 028 7573)
    Atlas Direct (0870 8111700)
    Columbus Travel (0845 3308518)
    Churchill (0800 026 4050)
    Essential Travel (0870 343 0014)
    Insure and Go (0870 901 3674)
    Post Office Insurance (0800 169 9999)
    Staysure (0870 046 4560)
    Saga (0800 056 5464)

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi All,

    Thanks for all your replys...

I actualy called all those in the last list (except Am express & saga)

I managed to get dad & mum insured for £76 for a single trip to egypt by Help the Aged and they (Alice) insured him for his condition (which was blocked arteries that he no longer has since his bypass last feb)

Basically, they all said if anything happens related to the heart he will not be covered at all unless the insurers accept the pre-exsisting condition and agree to cover it in writing.

The policy i got from them stated 'blocked arteries' therefore, they would cover him for anything related to that, God forbid if anything happened.

Which was a great relief for me.

    BUT!!!

After all that, i couldnt book the lastminute deal i wanted for this weekend so we will have to wait untill November to go...

    So thanks again!
