Hi all
I have been declined by co-op
I have been declined by Barclays
The Coop decline was my fault I used my current address but I am not on the electoral registet there. I am still on the electoral register at my mums which I moved out of about 3 years ago. If I had used my mums address I think I would have been fine. How do I even start explaining to them and with the BR won't they just think I'm dodgy anyway. especially I told them that I have been at my present address for over a year and never bothered to change it on the register
I appealed Barclays by going to the branch and they said that if its declined in central banking then theres no hope. I ask him to make a call to clarify they didn't credit check me (which the decline letter said they did) but the man said they didn't and wouldn't make the call. I asked him to do the application in branch and he said no as central banking refused and thats it. He was so unhelpful, he didn't pick up a phone, tap a button on the key board he didn't even pick up a pen.
He did say that there is something on my file that he can't disclose to me   I checked both Equifax and Experian and there are no fraud markers. I did bank with Barclays owing about £6k in OD and CC.
Can anyone recommend another free bankruptcy friendly bank???
Am sharing my mothers account and she is driving me mad with questioning me on things like a £15 dry cleaning bill to 'what did you spend £50 on at Lidl'
Love her to deaf but aaaaaarrrrggggghhhhhh:eek:
Please help

Cant understand why they won't give you one as it's apparently a BR friendly accountSealed Pot Challenge Member 1216 -

Would your mum open a co-op account and let you use it, then perhaps in time have you added?
Sorry not to be much helpAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
cant really suggest anything apart from what others have said....barclays were one of my biggest creditors (I owed them around £10,000) and they offered me a basic account....so I cant see you owing them in the past being a problem
have you tried ringing the financial ombudsman?

Thanks guy's yes my mum bless her has applied for a Barclays Cashminder for me and is still waiting to hear back.
Has anyone had any experience with Abbey? I just had a call from the OR to ask which actount is my Salary account etc. and I said it's Abbey though have transfered my salary to my mums account. The lady said she will write to them saying they have no interest in it. I have a £300 OD with them. If I talk to them can I ask them to write off the OD like they have to then just let me keeop the account? Long long shot but am cluching at straws, now.0 -
Hi creditpunch
You need to go back to Barclays or Coop and asked them to consider your application again and ask for the accounts by name.
Barclays is a cashcard account & Coop is cashminder. As I understand it they cannot refuse you an account unless you have a history of fraud. Do take along proof of your address (utility bills, rental agreement, etc) and they should look at it again.
Best of luck0 -

hope that helps a small bitWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
Thanks all I think I will persevere with Barclays I just called phone banking and explained I'm BR and they went into the account I DO have with them, there was no sign of the application I had made for the Cash Card account. I asked that once they recieve the letter from the OR confirming my BR could I have a CashCard account they said thy don't see a problem.
hhhmmm I think mine is going to be a long battle0 -
How do we know if a bank is BR friendly or not is it written in there terms and cons or is it through peoples past experience?
Should I really not bother with any other bank?0 -
Its all a bit of a mess the whole post br bank system. B4 i went BR i asked HSBC (to whom i owed nothing and had no OD etc) if i could keep my account post BR. They told me no! Explained to OR that i had this account and she said that if HSBC were happy to have me then i could continue to use it. I set up a barclays account and have been using that since but my HSBC account still shows on my internet banking. Had statement this am so rang them up to be told that they happy to allow account to continue!! - now got two current accounts!! All very odd!!
You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is 'never try';)
