Looking to go Grand Canyon in a couple of weeks from Las Vegas.
What are my options - i'd prefer avoiding the Coach (as it takes ages) but i dont want to spend loads of planes/helicopters.
Is there someway of getting there and view the beautiful scenary on a mini plane?
Cheers!

I did this years ago, and we ended having to get the train all the way back to LA and then back out to Las Vegas. It took about 18 hours. But that was starting from the Southern edge. There must be quicker and easier ways from the Northern edge. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

Helicopter or Plane is the only way to go unless you want a days travelling.
Grand canyon is not really even in Nevada it's in Arizona and is a long way from Vegas in anything except air travel.
i will admit it is not cheap but it is SO worth it IMO.
Budget on £175-£200 per person and make sure your flight leaves from McCarren. tempting looking cheap helicopter tours are widely advertised in Vegas, however these leave from the south rim or near it and you will have to get yourself out there, which is kind of a halfway house with all the orginial problems OP wanted to avoid .
try these main operators direct for best choice of Packages . they will all pick you up from your hotel

and you will get to see other great sites as well like , Hoover Damm , Lake Mead , Valley of fire, and a flight back over the strip
you will get what you pay for with this . get saving and do it properly is my advice and you can look forward to this kind of picture for your holiday albumBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
I agree with trets - It's probably about the best £200 you'll ever spend. For that price you get a landing in the Canyon, a basic lunch, and one of the best days out you'll ever have. I flew with Sundance.0

I went by coach this feb..$85 dollars including breakfast and lunch..It was great..went via hoover dam and had a 10 min photo stop then he did great commentary on the way...saw more on the coach then a quick flight over..0

We went in Sept 2002, its fantastic!!
Flew out from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon with Scenic Airlines, over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, commentary all the way. Helicopter ride with Sundance over the Canyon and then landing down in the Canyon. Boat trip through Canyon. Short coach trip to have lunch and then see a few other sights, then flew back to Vegas via slightly different route.
Its well worth doing, its not cheap but is a once in a lifetime unforgettable trip.0 -
I second most of those opinion.. we flew with Papillon and its definately worth the money , you see more of the canyon, Hoover Dam and all in between than you could ever see when just peeking over the edge I found Lake Mead to be an amazing sight from the air too....... it is truly spectacular to fly over the rim and down into the Canyon for breakfast.... and on the way back the sight of Las Vegas rising out of the Desert is also a sight not to be missed and a flight down the strip before landing.... start saving and go for a flight... you see more in a few hours than you could ever see from the ground......:T#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

We did Grand Canyon (North Rim), Bryce Canyon and Zion Park, 3 day road trip last May, what a fantastic time, stayed over in a Motel in Kanab Utah.
It was fantastic, the trip of a life time, worth the time & money spent.
I have heard the North Rim is better, although didn't do the South Rim to compare.0 -
hiya,
if you have the time to spare drive it is an absolutley unbelievable place to drive .we always use to do flydrive and just stop and book in along the way ,a short drive from las vegas is a place called big bear lake wow what a difference ,we left las vegas in shorts and when we arrived here it was snowing such a big difference this was around oct nov time though, and as for the grand canyon well it will take your breath away,we stayed the night on our trips there and to wake up open your door and see deer outside well what more can i say,we did do the train journey from flagstaff and i must admit i didnt enjoy it seating very uncomfortable and a long journey.must sees in california are montery ,cartmel,17 mile drive scary for me i am a whimp hehehehe.e also went to see general sherman (tree) cant remeber what type but another wow never seen anything so big,i also love san diego,i could go on and on and on hahahaha but ill stop now, enjoy.smile at everyone everyday and say hello0 -
I agree with trets and others that helicopter is the way to go.
I wouldn't recommend a small plane (seats about 9) as you often experience turbulance (at least half of the passengers threw up on my trip , including me) and the view can be obstructed. A bigger plane (seating about 18) such as we went on last year was much smoother and the view much better.
Been on a helicopter twice and there's nothing to beat the amazing experience of flying over the edge of the canyon :j
Wouldn't personally recommend going by coach from LV , much too long a journey for a day trip ,but you could always do what we did last year and hire a car for a few days , drive to the canyon and stay a night or two and see the sun set and rise over the canyon :cool:Same old same old since 20080 -
hi
i am scared of heights and reluctant to take plane or copter, what to do?0
