Got friends coming for dinner in a couple of weeks. They always organise a couple of simple games to play during the evening when we go there. I want to do the same, any suggestions, nothing too long so as not to get bored.

Do you have a PS2 - the buzz games for that are great fun - as is the Guitar Hero and Singstar - we always drag them out after a few drinks if we have folk in.No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:

We have nothing technical or electrical, we need simplicity0

How about pass the parcel - age specific - we had an adult pass the parcel last christmas after kids went to bed - 85year old grandpa looked great in the pink lacey thong he won!!!! (over his trousers of course):rotfl: :rotfl:0

Hi Maypole, depending how silly and giddy you want to get you could give this a try,we have been playing this as a family for as long as I can remember and I'm in my thirties now and it never gets boring!
Take a bar of chocolate (mars bar ideal) wrap it like pass the parcel and put it on a table (preferably with a tray or mat under) with a knife and fork.
Get a large coat, a big hat and a large pair of gloves, a dice and a box or tray to throw it on.
Everyone throws the dice if you get a 6 you have to put all the clothes on and start to unwrap the chocolate with the knife and fork, keep the dice going shouting out the numbers, if a six is thrown you have to undress and swop, the faster the dice is passed it gets more exciting and hysterical. We have passed this on through friends and family and its the first game requested at parties! We even had 80 year old granny doing it last year!
Sorry if its a bit long winded but its good fun! The winner is the one to eat the chocolate!0 -
You can do this as individuals or in teams: get some copies of the local free newspaper (one for each person/team) and prepare a list of questions. Award a point for the first person to find the information in the paper eg how much would it cost to live in Station Road (houses for sale section). Why is Joe Bloggs happy? (trophy award for sport) What time is Ratatoullie on? (Cinema section) etc etc0

How old are you and your friends?
I'd suggest some sort of action/fun games such as Cranium, Trivial Pursuit and Pictionary. Cranium is a bit of everything; answering questions, drawing objects, spelling words backwards, so it's a bit of everything and good fun! Games like this are good fun for all ages and do not end up as an intelligence contest, as some poeple can become quite intimidated by general knowledge contests! Trivial pursuit 20th anniversary is a really good edition, with something for everyone. With games like Trivial Pursuit, you could even team up, so it's you and your partner versus your friend and partner - sometimes this makes it better too as you can each confer with each other for the answers! It makes the game go quicker if you are short on time.
I get all of my games cheaply from charity shops and car boot sales. Now is the best time to find good games, as many people are starting to clear out in time for new Christmas games. The other day I was in a charity shop just as a woman came in with a huge pile of games that she said were last year's Christmas presents! I snapped up the Trivial Pursuits (20th anniv. edition) but she also had pictionary which I've already got!
Steer clear of the DVD games for your TV, we had Family Fortunes Catchphrase last year and they are really slow and you get bored really quickly waiting for it to move on.0 -

We are in mid 50s but very young in our minds. :rotfl:
Thanks for all the suggestions:beer:0 -
How about picking up a murder mystery party from a charity shop/car boot.
We've been lucky and bought two before both under £3.
OR
Cut out photos of celebs from different mags over the next few weeks and stick to a board/or cardboard with numbers on them. Everyone then has to name the celeb/or tv character they play etc for points. This sometimes takes quite a while to work out who people are...so many ooohh but I know who it is but just cant remember the name etc etc.
OR
If its near christmas you can hang some odd socks (wow we all have those after the washing machine monster has finished) and peg them on a piece of string. In each one put an object and you have to guess whats in there.
OR
Rapid dough...where you have two teams and you have to make an object that is on the card and the team has to guess what you're making.
OR
another game, but its head bandz where you have a head band and you put a card in and have to ask the others questions to what you are. This is a kids game..but you can make your own cards too. I bought one from a car boot and its always been great fun even using the childrens cards.
I'd definitely visit a few charity shops/car boots to look for something.
Hope you have a great time.0
