I am about to start in the world of teaching. I'm looking to see if anyone knows of any sources of good free posters to start the school year and to decorate my rather dull classroom! It's for a year 5 class, children age 9 !
Thanks, Tx

Hi,
Try going into bookshops/cinemas, explain you are a teacher and see if you can get some promotional posters. Also, you could get in touch with you local health authority and see if you can get some promotional stuff.
Good luck with teaching and have fun!

May be a bit advanced but nice posters anyway.

One way to personalise the classroom would involve displaying the work - illustrated poems/stories/ history projects and their own artwork http://www.accessart.org.uk/index.php.
The Guardian was giving posters away with their paper, they might still have a few copies.0 -
Does your county have a bookstart program? They usually have things - also not sure if you're aware but there is a program for free books for schools - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=494407&highlight=free+books+for+boys
My sister teaches year 4 and she uses alot of their own work with bits from hobbycraft stapled everywhere.0 -
I used to work in a Game shop and we always used to throw away the posters after a campaign. Some can be suitable for kids.Good luck, with the new careerAmazon Sellers Club Member Number 52

Well yes, but I think what Tony meant was that as it is the start of a new year and also the start of their teaching career, they do not have any work from the children to put up yet, the things you mention are produced over the first term and will be put up in the classroom as time progresses. Occassionally you may be lucky and have some pieces of work passed up from the previous teacher, in which case you can display them, but if not you have little to go with in the first few weeks - hence the need for posters etc. (I like the art site by the way though).
The following link gives access to posters about the topic of electricity (but this is a Y4 and Y6 topic usually so may not be suitable).

The reading connects website has some resources and I have ordered free posters from there before.
