FTSE performance over next 12/24 months????

The more knowledgable amongst you would you care to give your predictions for FTSE performance over the next 12 or 24 months? I'm looking for short term high yield investment on £3k and soemthing FTSE linked seems sensible to me but i'm no expert!

Any opinions much appreciated

    Hi,

First of all, I hope you do realise what you are getting into. We could be dozens of us having scores of views on what route the FTSE will take, and it will only end up leaving you more undecided than you already are. Secondly, you don't know who among us is qualified / has the background to comment on the markets, don't see how you're going to filter through these responses and decide on which ones to go by. So IMHO, I don't see how you can base an investment decision based on the trends that are forecast for the FTSE on this forum.

My personal view (and quite a bit of the reading I do has confirmed this) is that the Banking and the telecom sectors are the ones to watch out for in the time horizon you mention.

thanks for the reply, i appreciate what your saying but i fully understand what i'm getting into and indeed i treating the risk as a benefit by way of excitment!
The advice you have given is just the sort of thing i'm looking for. A balanced view of choice sectors is very beneficial when putting togeter a portfolio.

    OILS !

Buy strength ! So buy OIL STOCKS ! Even at $40 the oil majors are raking it in, even at $35 they are raking it in, at $55 and above ! yeh, you get the picture they will be raking it in :)

Others are good companies, with low debt, and high dividend yeilds, so ahem.... that excludes many telecoms, well okay vodafone looks good for a speculative play as it is the market leader, thats an other tip - Stick to the market leaders for the sector that your buying.

FTSE as a whole I think it will trend higher but volatile next year, though technically we are still in a bear market, which means its still high risk, so spread your investment between fixed interest and the stock market.
