Urgent-Memory Foam Mattress!

Options
Wondered if anyone has had experiance with these mattresses? We have slept on one for the past 7 nights- well not slept. It smells of rubber, and it gets so hot and retains the heat it feels like you have an electric blanket on permantly! It wasnt cheap at £450- going to speak to the shop tomorrow not sure what they will say. All comments greatly received- just need a good nights sleep!!!zzzzzzzzzzz

I vaguely remember that when we looked at buying one of these (which we didn't) that we were told that they had a "summer side" and a "winter side".

Basically like a different tog rating on each side of the mattress.

Whilst I appreciate that it still "winter" and perhaps should have this side upwards, if you are too hot then turning it over to "summer side" up, might be somewhat cooler for you.

Managed to get into shop today- they were brilliant. We have chosen another(normal) mattress which is coming next week.
Warning to others i certainly wouldn't buy this type again- only 7 more sleepless nights to go!

I have a memory foam mattress topper, which is approx 2 inches thick and it came with a zipped cover (quilted cotton one side and mock sheep skin on the other - for winter/summer choice). Mine cost about £135 for a double and it is brilliant. Wonderful to sleep on and made a BIG difference to my sleep patterns/difficulties (I suffer with FMS) It did smell when first unwrapped but I left it unwrapped for 24hrs before putting it on the bed; and it is warm but I just changed to a cheap lghter duvet. I wouldn't be without mine!

did take a while to get used to mine- but its great

( I got mine from Ikea - its a 3 or 4 layer foam mattress with the top being memory foam the lower layers being support - all topped with camel hair / cotton
    - much cheaper than a full memory foam )

I have fms too, and am looking to buy a memory foam topper. I'd be grateful for any recommendations (don't want to pay more than I have to, obviously!)

Yes it was aired and on the bed a few weeks before we slept on it. Maybe it was just faulty?? but that doesnt take away the 'hot' feeling thing. Mr Paws not happy at all so glad the shop so reasonable about it!!

I looked at new mattresses a few months back. I was at first astounded by the cost of the memory foam mattresses.

Laying on them I was instantly bought on the idea. Everything else I tried just didn't feel as good. Even the mattress toppers didn't work as well.

The leading brand (seems to be Tempur) was superb. Other's just didn't cut it. Hunting around I did find some companies selling the cheaper all-foam mattresses to, in theory, the same spec, but I didn't want to spend without trying. Tempur was everywhere.

Anyway went for a 25" all-memory foam and it is utterly fantastic. I would personally go for the 20" next time - that'd be enough. The 22" is unnecessary padding and the 15" too thin.

I know it sounds *a lot* of money, but think how long you are laying on it for. I've since had a few friends try it and they've gone and bought too.

So *if* you can afford it, think of it as one of those luxuries you can spend some of that well saved money on ....
