I always use value flour and all my cakes turn out well :)

We have just had our school fair and as usual I got the cake stall !! I made yoghurt cakes this year and they sold like crazy - people couldn't get enough and they are so easy to make.

If you do a search on here you will get the recipe - I used 9p yoghurts too and they were brill !!!

I always use value flour and have no problems. That said, I used to make scones with ease but the last time I tried they were terrible. My Mum suggested the flour might be at fault (she didn't know I used value). When I think back to making scones before, I always used a named brand. So maybe the slightly awkward things (scones, pastry etc.) do need better quality flour.

I've never tried using value flour. I've recently gone from organic to store's own brand, but for years used the branded stuff. Didn't notice any difference between those 3, so it'll be interesting to see if I notice any next time I replenish my supply.

  • I have always used value flour with no problems, use value eggs too. [I know, poor caged hens] I make cakes /cookies daily to feed my hungry family.:D
Have started to but cocoa from Farm Foods, cheaper than Mr T & just as good.
On the subject of Farm Foods, has anyone else noticed thier prices seem to have gone up aswell, thought it was too good to be true that they were much lower than Mr T.

Always use value flour (both SR and Plain) but always make sure that I sieve it before adding to whatever I'm doing. When using SR flour I usually add a flat teaspoon of baking powder in at the same time that I sieve it - just to give a litte extra boost to the rise.

Nothing but value flour enters this house! I make cakes, pastries, breads, pizzas, pasta... everything. Never had a failure yet.

I also use value flour. The only problem i have with it is if i don't use it all up. I always end up with flour wevils if i leave it in my cupboard for more than a month. Even stored it in a lock and lock. Other than that it is fine to use.
    Good luck with the fayrers.
